"Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday."
(Wilma Rudolph)

Problem description: I have most of the last ten years of my pictures on a 250 GB external drive (the Seagate FreeAgent Go). I bought a new laptop a couple months ago and moved most of my documents and other data over to the new laptop without a problem. Tonight, I tried to go back and get the pictures off of the external drive, and although it plugs in and lights up briefly when I plug it into the USB port, it doesn't show under Devices and Drives in File Explorer and I don't know why this is.

Attempted fixes: Tried each of the three USB ports on the laptop without success. Tried Google but found a lot of articles of the Windows 7/8 days and since I'm running Windows 10 I'm not sure this is helpful anymore.

Recent changes: Upgraded to Windows 10 but I'm not sure if that's the issue or not. I hope not.

Operating system: Windows 10 Home (64-bit)

System specs: HP model 13-c077nr (it's the Stream 13, I think it's called? Bought it from the Microsoft kiosk in the mall :sigh:

Location: USA

I have Googled and read the FAQ: Yes

I'd try it to load it on a machine with an older OS if possible. That'd at least determine if it's some kind of OS issue or hardware failure. Sometimes these external drives have issues with newer OSs.
