If I were a wealthy man, I would buy/build a mech simulator, full of levers and toggles and buttons and pedals, and it would have motion and flashing lights and the works. Then I would get someone to program a realistic giant robot game in the same vein as Patlabor and use it to rescue people from fires and earthquake debris.

That is literally steel battalion but with military action instead of emergency response.
