Overview > Motivation Why am I doing this? Because I have the required knowledge, will and resources. More specifically: I am an experienced software developer, who has worked on a wide variety of projects involving desktop- (Windows) and web-based developments. I specialise in from-scratch algorithm building, in numerical modelling and in solving any kind of data-related problem. I am particularly good at facing more-or-less complex situations without performing any pre-research (and this is basically what I will be doing here). Recently, I have gone through an eye-opening professional experience, which has made me to rethink everything. This project will certainly represent the medium-/long-term goal, which I need now at the professional level. Just one resource is required to accomplish what I want: time; and I have plenty of it. Just to clarify: all this time comes from the certainty and peace of mind, which result from the point above; nothing to do with my financial situation. Creating a Proper Web Search Engine from Scratch Cancellation Reasons This project was cancelled because the intended goal (i.e., building a good enough web search engine or, initially, a good enough indexing system) was proven impossible under the intended conditions (i.e., a zero-budget policy is not acceptable when relevant hardware enhancements are required since an early stage). That's why and technically speaking, this project might have also be considered completed, but with a non-ideal conclusion (i.e., "what was expected cannot be accomplished under the proposed conditions" rather than "here is the expected result"). Nevertheless, this project has delivered quite a few relevant outputs as shown in the following references: The blog of this project. It also includes some references to other projects in varocarbas.com, but most of its contents refer to this Project 1 (e.g., performance/server issues, parsing-related problems, coordination of bots, classification of the information, etc.).
