There's a cool GBA castlevania TAS with a bunch of frame perfect slide moves that make you fall through the floor in the first screen which then warps you to the final boss and then you win.

It's Goemon's Great Adventure for the N64, and the TASer is controlling the inputs for both characters to do some crazy poo poo.

the programmers knew well you could pull off all of the bullshit in this video, jumping off walls, passing through them etc., flying under the level and just left it in for people to discover

reading about emulation in general is pretty nuts, all of the technical limitations back then meant you had to do some pretty weird poo poo to get games lookin the way they do, and then wackos go in and reverse engineer all of that so you can play it on a smartphone

reading about final fantasy six bugs / hacks / exploits really cemented this for me. they had to do so much poo poo to pack a full-length rpg into the memory of an snes cart, and it leads to a lot of the better known exploits in the game

Are those even the same romhack?

mycophobia
May 7, 2008
No but it was decided that there should only be one Mario glitchy rom hack run on the site, which makes sense I guess. HappyLee's run is way better in terms of game choice, entertainment value and precision in any case. He spent like two years on that run whereas I spent maybe a week on mine.

If you have 25 minutes to kill, this guy talks in depth about some Mario 64 mechanics and it feels pretty TAS-like. Its starts of kinda neat but 10 minutes it goes off the rails as the commentator takes 12 hours to build up Mario's speed so he can propel Mario into a parallel universe (not kidding), which somehow lets him get the star by pressing the A button the least amount of times possible

he says in the comments that this is just theory, and he hacked in coin values to show possibilities. The actually trick would take about 240 hours to complete.

He could loop it, since he'd do a TAS of it, presumably.

yeah you can write LUA scripts that the emulator will execute but I'm not sure how you'd make it react to the random coin spread.
