my brother had a fierce argument with me that due to the way the electoral college (?) is set up that people don't really elect anyone. he gave an example of how candidates get upset when a district is changed because it can change he wins or loses a district. I couldn't understand anything he was telling me. can any goons help me understand how stupid my brother is and/or how stupid I am for not understanding?

It's highly likely that you're both stupid.

Did you sustain any head injuries during your argument?

No, we should have a giant gladiatorial match where everyone fights to the death until one emerges alive, covered in blood. Winner takes all!

In 2000 the person with the most popular votes didn't win the Presidency. This is confusing. http://www.learnnc.org/lp/media/lessons/davidwalbert7232004-02/electoralcollege.html

thats why we dont really vote the speaker of the house of representatives into office the electoral college was supposed to be almost as antidemocratic as that but it got neutered at some point, for the most part, and now it's just a weird multiplier we run our votes through one of the theories when we started the country was that it was a federation of the states, so the states are the ones who decide the president, weighted by their relative populations oystertoadfish has issued a correction as of 02:17 on Mar 3, 2016 |
