These dentures won't stop me from tearing out jugulars in Thunderdome.

I've come across a couple places that want a photo with the initial submission, but yeah it's pretty rare. It seems more common with smaller / younger journals, probably because the staff is only one or two people and it's one less thing to potentially forget about / run into deadline issues with if contributors are slow to respond or something. I've seen it once in a print journal too, which I assume is so that they could set up the final proof as quickly as possible.

Kinda weird, but I guess it's not a bad idea to have a bio headshot laying around just in case.

not the place i was talking about but in that vein

polychrome (phoneposting so no link) is a nice lil setup that offers 20bux a pop and wants to showcase diversity, a neat lil pigeonhole you can slide into easily enough

but they want you to go thru a rigorous trigger warning process cataloguing plot points and themes

might be worth keeping an eye on?

So every day fiction is kinda cool in that you get a ton of feedback if you get accepted. I got crits from 4 editors, plus it appears that people actually use the comment/rating features.

Just had two stories come out in Neon, which is my first time being in overseas print. Both of them are old, slightly reworked TD entries - there's a free story here http://neonmagazine.co.uk/signals-of-fear-and-uncertainty/ and another one that requires actually downloading the issue.

Congrats! And that's awesome, it's rare to see a journal with an active community of readers leaving comments like that.

Sold a story to Pantheon Magazine. I think I've been shopping it around since 2012 or so.

People who've read the work I'm shopping around right now (futuristic military sci-fi, basically) have mentioned that it seems very suited for a YA audience, and I'm actually seeing where they're coming from. I figure it can't hurt my chances, so does anyone have suggestions for good magazines looking for YA publications? I've found a few, but I figured I'd get some other perspectives before I start sending out submissions.

How long is it?

Maybe try Hunger Mountain or Yarn -- both are currently closed for submissions, but they have windows coming up in May and September respectively.

Oh yeah that's helpful information. 2,700 words.

Yarn was one I was looking at, cool. I'll take a look at Hunger Mountain too.

Cicada would be another one to check out.

The only other one I can think of that fit the bill would be Second Hand Stories, which isn't specifically YA, but accepts it. Might be worth looking at if your story is toeing the line, anyway. It's also in podcast format, if that matters to you.

edit: Should probably link them, huh?

Nice selection here. I can say at least though, that Grendelsong said they were closing up shop (they're listed under no deadline submissions) Shame, having just stumbled on them from this.

Congrats, and thanks for the link! I want to send out some more stuff to podcasts, there are a few good ones floating around that put a lot of effort into it.
