Clubs have the same thing when title races go down to the wire. You don't think thoose open-top buses and special kits get readied overnight.

They could have had a ride in a normal blue bus. It's not like people would wonder why they were having the parade. Maybe make a banner to drape over the side, but only if you're super confident. Anything else is asking for oeuf on your visage.

Days later and I still cannot believe how dumb Deschamps was in selecting his lineup. 1. Starting Sissoko over Kante was a mistake. Kante doesn't just play defense; he breaks up play farther upfield and feeds attacking players. And Kante has delightful touch on the ball- he does not get nearly enough credit for his technical quality. All the articles written about how Kante is a "pure destroyer" are horseshit. Sissoko awed observers the same way Andros Townsend does, with powerful runs that "cut through the defense" and left him isolated and in poor shooting positions. Giroud couldnt keep up with him, and he never bothered to look for Griezmann or Payet. The point of runs is to draw attackers, to pass the ball off to teammates in the created space. Sissoko, however, kept his head down, didn't pass, and then shot into the crowd. Great job idiot. He didn't produce goals and totally wrecked France's movement forward as a team. Had Kante played, he would have taken the ball off Portuguese players before they could put 8 behind the ball, getting the ball into attacking players. 2). Payet should have stayed on the field. Matuidi had a terrible match. Why leave him on? Who the gently caress knows. Totally suffocated. Credit to Portugal for making him ineffective. Payet on the other hand found space, put in reasonable crosses, made attacks happen. He saves some energy for the endgame. And he has the psychological toughness to win important games. Taking him off slowed France's attack and demonstrated a small time mentality from Deschamps. And demerit to Deschamps for not subbing Matuidi for Coman instead of Payet. 3. Pogba should have been brought off for Martial. Pogba was ineffective for the second half. Portugal were losing energy after playing 120 minutes twice, and Martial and Coman (in for Matuidi in my fanfic) would have run them ragged. 4. Umtiti is a bitch. Turned his back to Eder for the winning goal. Lol. Take the ball to your face to save your nation, you beta coward. He and Vermaelen can swab the Barcelona dressing room showers together I guess. Euro 2016 showed the hazard of loyalty to players. England especially, then Spain, Germany, and France- all of whom had managers that selected players based on past relationships rather than current form or the shape and characteristics necessary to win their particular matches. Only Portugal and Italy adapted to what they had to work with effectively. Reprisal fucked around with this message at 05:42 on Jul 13, 2016 |

Sissoko was France's biggest attacking threat of the night. I'm not sure if you watched the match.

I watched it all. He plowed forward with no end product, and he pushed players out of position. That's not helpful, it's hindering. It's like a soldier who breaks ranks to charge forward- unless he delivers a crippling blow to the enemy, he's just made his entire unit less effective and more vulnerable. Sissoko didn't land a crippling blow.

Deschamps is a loving fraud and everyone knew it. That France made it to the final was more of a team effort than anything coming from his poo poo tactical mind.

Not really sure why Deschamps refused to use his third sub until the game was nearly over.

Kurtofan posted:was it? we were in the bad half of the bracket (not our fault england turned to be be big bottlers) Let's be real, France didn't have a tough game until Germany. The group was an absolute joke and the bracket was organized such that Germany Italy and Spain/Croatia would knock each other out without ever seeing France. It was a walk to the semis. England was never going to be a problem.
