Punk is dead. It died in 1981. Metal is dead. It died in 1991. Rock is dead. It died in 1998. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEc9nXErU-Y Hip Hop is the new king.

Punk died in 1983 when Lee Ving reduced its ethos to 7 words: I don't care about you. gently caress you! There was really nothing left to say after that, and even Gang of Four packed it in and followed The Jam into pastel suits and click-track discotheque hell.

No one talks about Rancid but they probably have some of the best lyrics.

Certainly. Tim is the one with the Mohawk who sings and plays guitar while Lars is the one with the spiked hair who sings and plays guitar.

Is punk rap possible? I mean ratm had three great albums and had punk going through it but the closest to 'punk rap' now is death grips who are total shite and make me want to projectile vomit when I hear them also clipping but one of them wrote Hamilton or some poo poo

Rancid are still going, and Matt Freeman has always played bass for them. Always loved that Maxwell Murder solo. The only non original member is the drummer which is quite impressive given how long they've been going for, and punk bands turn over members like wildfire. Only listened to Lars F and the Bastards a bit, and they seemed fine too. Never known him to play bass in anything. ..And Out Come The Wolves is such an amazing record though, it's just non stop rad songs from start to end. They must've known them that there was no way they were going to top it.

Blink gets a pass from me because their first two records were ace, then when they put out their megaselling record it still had decent songs and everything that came out afterwards like Taking Back Sunday was pure garbage, so it looked great in comparison. Fun fact: everyone you meet in the UK still calls them Blink 1-8-2.

I'm wearing a Flag shirt and walking my dog when 3 little skate kids start going in circles around me and the littlest one is all like "poo poo did you see Black Flag play?!" and I was all like "no they broke up when I was your age but I've seen Rollins a couple times". And it was like saying I saw God or something, they were all just stoked and so happy to see a grown up that listened to "their" music. Not dead so long as lil bros will keep it alive.
