We settled this question 150 years ago. You don't get to leave. One of the podcasts I listen to mentioned that the part of the state around San Diego gets most of it's money from military spending, so San Diego would become the new Gary Indiana.

It won't happen, but supposing it were possible would the Republican controlled federal government be in favor of seeing California leave since it would strengthen their control?

There seems to be a rumor about some state or another wanting to secede pretty much every election. It's usually Texas. It doesn't happen. It isn't going to.
