I have a peanut allergy.
I always enjoy going through my lightroom catalog near the end of the year - here's a few shots that I didn't post at the time for reasons that are now unclear. Feel free to take this space to do the same, or laugh at mine.

I only do one type of photos and I didn't even do much this year, so 2017 is the year that I hopefully get out of my comfort zone a bit more (and finally buy something to retire my 5D Mark II)

The seal one is ridiculously cool. It looks like a cartoon, in a very good way.

This year I tried to do a little more taking pictures of people:

Matthew by spike mccue, on Flickr

AK by spike mccue, on Flickr

Alex by spike mccue, on Flickr

Tyler by spike mccue, on Flickr

Russ by spike mccue, on Flickr

And continued to think about why I want to continue to take pictures, and about how I'm more interested in photography as a means of personal documentation and exploration than anything else.

Next year my goal is more of the same:

Push myself to take more portraits of friends
Push myself to carry a camera and actively seek out and find the moments and scenes that are descriptive of myself and my life.

It was one of those shots I really was not sure what it was going to look like. When it came up I was pretty excited to see unique shape the water was taking.

This one ended up being my favorite, especially after seeing a whole stack of amazing landscapes the tent just makes me think you're inside smugly drinking a beer.

I wish, when you are skiing up a mountain with a 50lbs backpack you get very specific about what you bring.

With our rifles and grenades and some help from God.
2016 was all about large format shooting for me. I was working on a project inspired by early calotype portraiture up through the staged scenes of the Pictorialists. I've had several of these make it into some pretty cool juried exhibitions, so I'm pretty happy with the path I'm on with them. Still looking to elevate the project in 2017, so we'll see what's left to happen with it. These are all 16x20 silver gelatin prints, toned with sepia, from 8x10 paper negatives.

Small world, I recognize friends of friends in your photos, a good friend works at your agency and I interviewed there last year.

That's crazy. I actually left that agency last fall. PM me to find out if we met each other.
