From what I've heard you can get good results with one but I've never used them. Jump onto amazingribs.com or smoking-meat.com and have a look there, and if you do get one make sure to post your results here.

I would go gas over electric personally if you can get away with gas, but electric ones are fine. You won't get the crust and as deep of a smoke flavor, but it will will make good food if you use good techniques.

I've done beef short rib before, but yeah, I guess they just make 'em less impressively over here. Once Trump kicks me out, we should convene in the middle of Germany and slowcook up a storm for all the GiP folks that may or may not still be able to get together there through visa-waiver travel.
