My grandfather loved movies. His collection mostly consisted of mob and war movie titles, which sparked my young imagination. I remember as a kid, I would spend hours going through his collection, picking titles I wanted to watch. I've been slowly trying to rebuild my grandfather's movie collection since his passing a couple years ago. He used to tape everything and anything onto VHS and had a little notebook that he would keep track of all of his movies in. When he passed, most of the VHS tapes were either old and worn out or borrowed and never returned, or taped over with something else, so my uncle ended up throwing most of them out, but before he did I was able to save gramp's little notebook and have been on a mission since. There's around 230 titles in his collection, but there are a few titles that he recorded that he didn't write detailed notes on, or got the title wrong, or it was a program that he recorded off of basic television, so some of these are proving to be a little difficult to track down, especially the obscure documentaries that my grandfather was fond of. I’ve scanned all the pages in his book and have put the titles in an excel spreadsheet that I’ve been slowly populating with info. Most of them are pretty well known, but there are a few that I have almost nothing to go off of. Hopefully with the help of this thread, I’ll be able to identify the rest of this list and complete my quest to recreate my grandfather’s collection, upgrading to BluRay where possible (although why anyone else would want Attack Force Z on Blu Ray is beyond me). The following list are the problematic titles I can’t find much info on, followed by the main list itself for those curious (with the problematic titles still in), and finally the scans of the pages themselves for completion’s sake. First, the trouble titles. Most of these are super vague, sorry. Also keep in mind nothing on this list will be post 90s. I think the most recent movie on this list might be Casino. 1980 New Mexico Prison Riots – Possibly this BBC documentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3M-hPpuAqwQ A Question of Guilt (TV Movie?) America 40s Battle Line Battle of Peleliu Beyond the Wall Blackout – 2 possibilites for this one, a 1978 movie about criminals during the New York blackout, and an ‘85 release with Keith Carradine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkiuLHPvx4w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4IUiOKuUEA Chicago Protest (Beyond the Wall?) Cop may actually be referring to this James Woods movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092783/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Murder Can Hurt You! is a TV movie spoof of crime dramas from 1980. J. Gotti: Mafia Wars is probably referring to the 1996 TV movie starring Armand Assante that's just called Gotti. It had a bunch of alternate titles on video and when cut for other TV stations like GOTTI: Dramatic Blurb About the Mob and such. Soldiers Men in Battle is almost definitely referring to the documentary series Soldiers: A History of Men in Battle. Tour of Duty (Vietnam I-III) reads like it would be referring to all three seasons of the 1987 TV series Tour of Duty.

Whoa, good looking out with that James Woods movie! Definitely something I could see in this collection. I'll have to run it by my uncles and see if it rings any bells. I actually found a doc series called Mafia Wars, but the Armand Assante movie does sound familiar so I'm going to hunt that one down as well. It's kinda crazy how some of the obscure stuff ends up being on Youtube in its entirety https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBnGY-Q9Tfo and movies like 52 Pick-Up are getting remastered Blu Ray releases. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2D0WOUhtJM I can't wait for Cimino's Year of the Dragon to get a proper american Blu release too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRF35LcYFHQ

ruddiger posted:Cold Steel Seeing those two rarities made me laugh. I inherited many VHS tapes from a step-grandfather and those were two he'd recorded. He had one of those giant satellite dishes back in the 1980s that could receive all the channels for free (with zero commercials). This was before the cable companies started scrambling all the channels in the early 1990s. He was recording like a madman.

Those two are great. It's definitely the obscure titles that I don't even remember watching that sparked my desire to complete this list. I never even heard of Hanky Panky, and in my lil kid mind, I probably looked at that title in my gramps' collection and just went "lame" or whatever, without realizing it's actually a pretty funny comedy with Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPtRLU5XmKk then there's titles like Death Before Disnhonor or The Unholy, which I must've watched a million billion times just on the strength of the name alone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPQcVZUpt4k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-39xlYox1I

precision posted:"Erased" is probably the Schwarzenegger movie Eraser? That's a possibility, but it seems too new to be on the list, even though in reality it came out in 96, only a year removed from Casino. Another title I'll have to run by the family to see if anyone remembers any alternate movies that title may be referencing.

Investigative Reports: Prisons is obviously an episode of the A&E show that started in the early 90's. (Hello, I'm Bill Curtis)
