Can't remember who posted it (probably someone here in CSPAM) but each sectioned-off part has roughly the same population, except the ones with "1/2" which are half as much.

Mexico City is a big bowl full of cars with little emission controls and fills right up with smog.

It's not true, at least for New York, and suspect most of the others as well. In New York, SUNY has about 50k employees. The City of New York has over 300k, and the State has ~250k last I remember. SUNY is a huge employer, no doubt, but not the biggest in the State

edit: i went to the source site, which says 'non-government' employers. Not sure what planet they live on where the "State University of New York" is not government employment

so nationally, your only real choices of employment seem to be state universities, private healthcare, or wal-mart.

I'd like to see a little more granularity on this map, like the most common employment position within each industry in each state. I gotta imagine the healthcare states aren't employing hundreds of thousands of surgeons or specialty care providers; it's gotta be more like hundreds of thousands of front office workers and nurse practitioners, or the three person crew that runs those Urgent Care buildings that spring up on every square block like some kind of weed.

I don't think anyone is trying to pass it off as that. It's not a surgeon map. Healthcare networks employ tons of people. Same with walmart. They don't have thousands of CEOs.

Just because they're public universities doesn't make them government entities.

Actually being part of the city/state government? A lot of places get state/federal funds on some level, it doesn't make them all government entities.

(and can't post for 15 days!)

The reason they count universities but not actual government jobs for that map is because if they counted government employees then "Government" would be the top employer in every single state. Whereas state universities are technically part of the government they're not the biggest employer in every state.
