 Wild Card Weekend Game One: (6)Houston Texans at (3)San Diego Chargers  vs  In the first game of the 2016 Redux playoffs, we see the sixth seeded Houston Texans travel out to San Diego to play the AFC West Champion Chargers. Unfortunately both teams' offenses stayed at home, as we'll soon see. The first quarter opens up with a decent San Diego drive, aided by two costly Texans penalties and a lucky Chargers fumble recovery, ending in a Josh Lambo field goal to put the Bolts up 3-0. The Texans respond with their own equally slow, methodical drive which basically takes all the time out of the first quarter, before their drive stalls and ends with a tying Nick Novak field goal, tying the game up at 3 apiece. A Chargers punt to open the second quarter winds up with another long sustained Texans drive, which again stalls inside the ten yard line and ends in another Novak field goal, putting the Texans up 6-3. The Chargers take the kickoff and put together the most complete drive of the day, milking the clock down past the two minute warning with several runs from Branden Oliver, before Philip Rivers finds Dontrelle Inman on a 3rd and goal the play after the two minute warning, putting San Diego ahead 10-6. With under two minutes to go, the Texans take the kickoff and go for a two yard loss, an incompletion, and a Brock Osweiler sack, knocking them back to their own 17 yard line. After a bad punt and getting the ball at the Houston 32, the Chargers take the clock down to thirty seconds before kicking another field goal, extending the lead 13-6. Houston takes the next kickoff and just runs the ball twice, sending us into halftime. You've got that right folks, a half has been played with each team only having the ball for three real drives. Super exciting. The third quarter opens with Houston punting after 4 plays, but quickly regain the ball on an errant Philip Rivers pass, picked off by Kareem Jackson and returned to the Chargers 48. The Texans continue to pound the ball up the middle for small chunks of yardage before the drive stalls once again inside the Chargers 10 yard line, forcing the Texans to settle for another Novak field goal, closing the gap to a Charger lead of 13-9. San Diego gets the ball with about 4 minutes remaining in the quarter, putting together another sustained drive before time expires in the quarter, the Chargers on the move and inside Texans territory The fourth quarter opens off with a Rivers pass being intercepted again, this time by John Simon, and returned to the Texans 42. However, after a Holding call backs Houston up to their own 32, Brock Osweiler is picked off by Shaq Petteway, whom no one has ever heard of. Another series of running plays by Oliver and Gordon set up another Lambo field goal, extending the lead to 16-9. The two teams trade three and outs before San Diego gets the ball back with five and a half minutes to go. They use the short passing game and running game to eat up clock, forcing Houston to burn their timeouts after the two minute warning. The Chargers are left with 1:45 on the clock and third and nine at the Texans 29. For any type of chance, the Texans have to force a field goal attempt. Rivers drops back and hits a wide open Dontrelle Inman down the sideline for a gain of 16, followed by a series of QB kneels to end the game, sending the Chargers to Tennessee with the final score of 16-9, San Diego Game MVP: Branden Oliver, 16 carries for 82 yards Play by Play Game Two:(5)Baltimore Ravens vs. (4)New England Patriots  vs  In our second AFC matchup, we'll see who will move on to face the top seeded Bengals, with the other matchup already set. These two teams are no strangers to each other in the playoffs, with Baltimore being one of the few teams that's had Tom Brady's number in years past. Let's see if that'll hold true today. The game starts out ominously for the Ravens, whom on the first series of the game sees Terrence West cough off the ball, New England recovering deep in Baltimore territory. The Patriots take a rather conservative approach, pounding the ball with their running game and using the short passing game to chew up nearly six minutes of clock before Brady hits Malcolm Mitchell in the endzone for the game's first score, putting the Patriots up 7-0. A quick three and out by the Ravens gives the ball back to a hot New England offense, using a big run by Dion Lewis and a few shorter runs by Blount to set up a Michael Floyd one yard touchdown grab, putting the Patriots up 14-0. The Ravens get the ball back and finally start to wake up on offense, but the quarter expires with the Ravens driving into New England territory. Unfortunately for the Ravens, the drive stalls at the Patriots 35, but the Ravens are able to get on the board with a Justin Tucker 52 yard field goal to cut the lead to 14-3. The Patriots offense shows no signs of slowing down, as they continue to chew clock and take nearly 7 minutes off the clock before being forced to settle for a short Gostkowski field goal on 4th and goal, answering the Ravens' score with their own field goal and pushing the lead back to 14 with a 17-3 score. The previous drive, however, got the Ravens' offense in rhythm. In just four minutes, they drive 79 yards, aided by a 46 yard run by Kenneth Dixon, before hitting Breshad Perriman in the endzone for their first touchdown of the game, closing the gap and making the game 17-10. The Patriots however, aren't rattled at all and Tom Brady orchestrates a brilliant 4 minute offense, driving 70 yards in under two minutes before finding Gronkowski on a 23 yard pass into the endzone, pushing the score to 24-10 with a minute and a half left. The shootout continues as Flacco guides the Ravens to mid field with 1:22 left, before Kenneth Dixon rips off a 42 yard gain on a draw play, and Javorius Allen punches it in from 7 yards out two plays later, making the score 24-17 Patriots. The Ravens are able to guard against further damage with the last 40 seconds of the half, heading into the locker room only down 7 points. The Patriots receive the ball to start the third quarter, and their offense shows no signs of slowing down, driving down the field and into Baltimore territory. Their drive is stopped quite suddenly by a self inflicted wound, James White fumbling the ball at the Ravens 25. Baltimore picks up 50 yards in the ensuing drive, settling for a field goal to move closer to the Patriots, cutting the score to 24-20. The Patriots' offense finally slows down afterward, punting after a three minute drive, giving the ball back to Baltimore, who starts to put together a drive, but the quarter ends with a big tackle for loss on second down. The last quarter opens with Baltimore converting a short first down, then punching the ball into the endzone on a Kenneth Dixon 12 yard pitch two plays later, Baltimore finally taking the lead, 27-24. New England's offense is still in a funk, milking three minutes from the clock, finally being forced to punt on a 4th and 7 with ten minutes remaining in the game. Baltimore takes over at their own 41, and doesn't take their feet off the gas, still utilizing the passing game to get down the Patriots 30 before the drive stalls, but Justin Tucker puts the Ravens up 30-24 with another field goal, and six minutes left in the game. The Patriots offense starts to finally pick back up, Brady completing two 20 yard passes to both Edelmen and Bennett, then hits Edelmen in the endzone for a 14 yard touchdown pass just before the two minute warning, the PAT putting the Patriots back on top 31-30. The Ravens get the ball back at their own 19, and after a run for no gain, the two minute warning hits with the Ravens looking at a 2nd and 10. After an incompletion, Flacco hits Perriman for a 23 yard catch and a first down, and a timeout from Baltimore is called with 1:46 left. Two three yard runs sets up another third down, where Flacco finds Dennis Pitta on the sideline for a 16 yard gain, stepping out of bounds with 1:30 left, and on the Patriots 30 yard line. The Ravens run the ball three more times, picking up another first down before running out of bounds, with 51 seconds left and on the Patriots 20. Another run and a Patriots encroachment penalty sets up a 3rd and 2, which Pitta picks up on a short pass. Flacco continues to throw the ball, overthrowing Steve Smith Sr. in the endzone, stopping the clock with 17 seconds left. Terror strikes the Ravens as a Terrence West carry is stripped free, but luckily the Ravens recover at the Patriots 7. After another timeout with three seconds left on the clock, Justin Tucker lines up and boots through the chipshot game winning field goal, sending the Ravens to Cincinnati for next week's divisional matchup, 33-31. Game MVP: Terrence West, 15 carries 101 yards Play by play Game Three: (6)Philadelphia Eagles at (3)Dallas Cowboys  vs  With our AFC Divisional Matchups set, we move onto our first NFC Wild Card matchup, which will be the third meeting this year between these NFC East Rivals as the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Dallas to take on the East Champion Cowboys. Dallas takes the opening kickoff and shows no quirks or difference from their regular season offense, using their superior offensive line and ground game to start marching right down the field, chewing clock before Ezekiel Elliot punches the ball in from 9 yards out, putting Dallas up 7-0. Phildelphia offers no response, going three and out in their first offensive possession, which is met by a three and out by Dallas on their second possession. Phildephia receives a punt with three minutes left in the first quarter, and starts to march into Dallas territory as the clock expires. In only the 2nd play of the second quarter, Carson Wentz hits Zach Ertz in the endzone for a 24 yard touchdown strike, evening up the score at 7-7. After another Dallas punt, the Eagles start to march down the field again, but the drive is cut short when Darren Sproles fumbles the ball, Dallas recovering at the Eagles 45. Alfred Morris and Elliot take control of the game, pounding the ball up the middle, taking 5 minutes off of the clock before being stopped inside the Eagles 10, being forced to settle for a Dan Bailey field goal, putting Dallas back on top 10-7. After back to back three and outs, the Eagles get the ball back at midfield with a minute left in the half. After a 12 yard pass to Zach Ertz, Wentz laces a 36 yard touchdown pass to Jordan Matthews in the endzone, putting the Eagles up 14-10 with thirty seconds left on the clock. Dallas decides not to press with so little time left, and heads into the locker room down 4. Philadelphia picks up right where they left off out of the half, marching down the field in just under five minutes, Wentz hitting DGB on a screen pass, getting into the endzone and putting the Eagles up 21-10. Dallas responds with a three and out, but catches a break on the next Eagles possession when Wendell Smallwood fumbles the ball, Dallas recovering for the second time in the game. Dallas' offense, still stagnant, can't put together a long drive, but is close enough to attempt another field goal, which sails through and cuts the lead to 24-13. With five minutes left in the quarter, the Eagles aren't even close to taking their feet off the gas, chewing more clock and marching down field before Wentz hits Ertz in the endzone yet again for his second touchdown of the day, extending the lead to 28-13 with a minute left in the quarter. Things get worse for Dallas as Dak Prescott's first pass after getting the ball back is picked off by Rodney McLeod, and run back to the Dallas 23. as the clock expires in the third. Dallas' defense holds to start the 4th quarter, holding the Eagles to a field goal, extending their lead to 31-13. The teams then trade punts, Dallas getting the ball back with 9 minutes to go. Forced to abandon the run because of the score, Dallas moves down the field and into the Eagles redzone, but forced to go for it on 4th down, a 4th down pass sails incomplete and the Eagles take over on downs with six minutes left. The Eagles quickly go three and out and punt, giving Dallas the ball back with four minutes left. The Eagles drop back into a prevent defense, allowing Dallas to move downfield at will, Terrence Williams catching a 6 yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to make the score 31-20. The Eagles recover the ensuing onside kick, punting after three runs and Dallas using their timeouts, the Cowboys getting the ball back with 1:48 left on the clock. Dallas can't do anything with the ball however, throwing four straight incompletions and allowing the Eagles to kneel on the ball, preserving their victory and moving onto Atlanta with a 31-20 victory. MVP: Carson Wentz, 10/20 168 yards, 3 TDs Play by play Game Four: (5)Washington at (4)Seattle Seahawks  vs  In our last game of the day, we'll decide which team will travel to Chicago to face the 2nd seeded Bears. The wild card Washington Racial Slurs or the NFC West Champion Seahawks. The game opens up with Washington and Kirk Cousins trying to loosen up the defense, connecting with a 16 and 24 yard pass out of the gates. Seattle looks shell shocked as Washington moves down the field, Cousins connecting with Jordan Reed for a one yard score, putting Washington up 7-0. Seattle's offense can't get off the ground after getting the ball, but after a punt, lucks out with the 1st play from scrimmage, Chris Thompson fumbles the ball, Seattle recovering at the Washington 31 yard line. Seattle can only manage three yards on a draw play for Rawls, and two incompletions from Wilson set up a Haushka field goal, cutting the lead to 7-3. Washington takes the ball with 5 minutes to go, and starts to march down the field, converting a first down at the Seattle 11 yard line as the quarter ends. The second quarter opens with the Seattle defense holding firm, forcing a Washington field goal to extend the lead to 10-3. The two teams trade punts on their next two possessions, before Seattle puts together another drive to get into Washington territory, but again stalls and ends with another Haushka field goal, the score moving to 10-6. Washington punts on their next possession, and their defense takes over on the next Seattle possession, holding the seahawks deep in their own territory before Deangelo Hall picks off Russell Wilson, returning it down to the Seattle 17. Seattle's defense steps up as well, knocking Washington back to the Seattle 21 and forcing another field goal, extending the lead to 13-6. Once again, the Washington defense completely shuts down the Seattle offense, forcing another punt and putting the onus on the Seattle defense to hold serve. Seattle's defense is up to the challenge however, as Deshawn Shead intercepts a Kirk Cousins pass and returns it 34 yards for a touchdown, evening the score at 13-13 as the half comes to a close. Seattle's offense picks up a bit as the third quarter opens, driving down in the opening five minutes and kicking a 47 yard field goal to take the lead, 16-13. Washington responds with their own 8 minute drive, moving downfield before the Seattle defense stands up in their own redzone, forcing a Washington field goal, again tying the score at 16-16. Seattle takes the ensuing kickoff, and starts putting together their own drive as the quarter expires. Seattle continues to drive downfield as the fourth quarter opens, but is stopped suddenly in the redzone when Chris Culliver intercepts a Russell Wilson pass. Washington however can't do anything with the change of possession, punting the ball back to Seattle with nine and a half minutes to go. Seattle takes the ball at the Washington 43 and manages to move into the Washington redzone, before settling for another Haushka field goal, taking the lead 19-16. Washington responds with a quick three and out, punting back to Seattle with five minutes left on the clock. The Seahawks move into their clock-killing offense, running the ball again and again, driving down field and never letting Washington touch the ball again, kicking another field goal for good measure as time expires, winning the game and punching their tickets for Chicago, 22-16. Welcome to the Divisional Playoffs of the 2016 Redux Season which is already better than the actual 2016 season because the Patriots aren't in it. Let's jump into our first game. Game One: (3)San Diego Chargers vs (2)Tennessee Titans The first quarter opens with the Chargers kicking off to a rested Titans team who's eager to get back onto the field. And they show no signs of rust as they start to employ the type of brutal headstrong offense that netted them a first round bye in the first place. A series of short passes and headstrong running chews through the opening quarter like a saw, before the Chargers defense steps up and holds firm inside the five yard line, holding a nearly 9 minute opening Titans drive to a chip shot Ryan Succop field goal, putting the Titans on the board first, 3-0. After spending so much time on the sideline to open the game, the Chargers offense can't find an early rhythm, punting after a three minute drive stalls at midfield. The Titans get the ball back, their offense quickly chewing up the rest of the first quarter, time expiring with the Titans facing 3rd and 3, and leading 3-0. The Chargers open the third quarter with a key sack to force a Titans punt, and then lean on their ground game, using all three RBs on the roster to pick up chunks of yardage and march downfield, before Danny Woodhead breaks a tackle and sprints into the endzone from 10 yards out, scoring the game's first touchdown and puts the Chargers up 7-3. The two teams trade punts on ensuing possessions, before the Titans get the ball back under the two minute warning. The Titans utilize the middle of the field as they still have all their timeouts, but again are unable to find the endzone, being forced to settle for another short field goal, cutting the score to 7-6 Chargers, and taking that same score into halftime time expires on a Chargers drive. San Diego's offense stalls out of the half, punting from midfield after a 5 minute drive. Tennessee starts to pick up the pace of the game, needing only three minutes to march down the field and hit Harry Douglass in the endzone for a 25 yard touchdown pass, moving the Titans back into the lead, 13-7. The Chargers offense goes three and out on the next possession, punting the ball back to Tennessee with five minutes left in the quarter. Mariota would need only two minutes to find Demarco Murray with a screen pass, where he breaks a tackle into the open field and goes 58 yards for another score, putting the Titans up by two scores, 20-7. With four minutes left in the half, the Chargers can only get the ball to mid field before punting once again, giving Tennessee the ball back on their own 22 and up two scores with only one quarter left to play. With the Chargers entering desperation mode, they lean on their defense to give the team a spark. On Tennessee's opening possession of the 4th quarter, Kendall Wright is hit immediately after a reception, jarring the ball loose which is recovered by the Chargers at midfield. San Diego however is only able to move the ball down to the 34, enough to set up a long field goal attempt for Josh Lambo, which he puts through the uprights, the score being cut to 20-10, still a two score game with 11 minutes left. San Diego's defense would need another big stop to get the ball back for their offense, but a missed assignment opens up a massive hole for Antonio Andrews, which he takes 38 yards for another score on the following drive, extending the score to 27-10 with seven minutes to go. San Diego, forced to abandon the run, sets Rivers up back in the shot gun, and he starts to find his receivers, only facing a second down once in the next two minutes before hitting Tyrell Williams in the endzone for a touchdown, moving the score to 27-17, with 5:38 to go. After a kickoff, the first pass Mariota throws is picked off by Joshua Perry in Titans territory, taking the ball down to the Titans 30. On the very next play off of the change of possession, Melvin Gordon moves off of the left tackle to find nothing but daylight, galloping 30 yards for the second Chargers touchdown in under a minute, cutting the score to 27-23 after a missed PAT from Josh Lambo, 4:10 to go. The Titans, now in a one score game, move into their four minute offense and use their running game to march down the field, chewing precious seconds and passing the two minute warning, before another Succop field goal pushes the score to 30-23 with 1:44 left on the clock. With 1:44 to go and no timeouts left, the Chargers need to go from their own 14, 86 yards down field for a touchdown to try and send the game to overtime. On first down, Rivers completes a pass to Travis Benjamin for 14 yards, who smartly runs out of bounds to stop the clock with 1:29 to go. The next play, Rivers completes a pass to Branden Oliver, who is knocked out of bounds after an 8 yard pickup. On 2nd and 2 with 1:24 to go, Rivers overthrows Travis Benjamin and the ball falls incomplete. On third and two, Melvin Gordon is stood up at the line, and the Chargers are called for holding, which the Titans decline, bringing up 4th and 2. On the critical play, Rivers takes the snap and backs up, slinging the ball to Oliver in the flat, but the ball sails high and incomplete, ending the Chargers season on the field and in San Diego overall. Two Marcus Mariota kneels is all that's left before the Titans walk out of their home arena with the victory, awaiting either a trip to Cincinnati, or a home game against the Ravens. Titans win, 30-23 Game MVP: Demarco Murray, 21 carries 107 yards, TD Play by Play Game Two: (5)Baltimore Ravens vs (1)Cincinnati Bengals In our second game of the day, we'll see who the Titans will play in the AFC Championship Game after defeating the San Diego Chargers. This game will be the third matchup between these divisional foes, with the Ravens earning a wild card and the Bengals taking the AFC North and top seed in the AFC. The game opens up with the Ravens being unable to generate anything on offense, going three and out and quickly punting the ball to the waiting Bengals. Cincinnati responding by going on a long, methodical drive, taking up 7 minutes of the clock. They move from their own 36 yard line and down the field to the Ravens' 26 yard line, but after an offensive pass interference call, Andy Dalton's pass is off the mark, being picked off by noted amazing safety Eric Weddle, stopping the Bengals drive in its tracks, returning the pick to the Baltimore 7 yard line. After a loss of one on first down, Joe Flacco drops back and throws a deep bomb to a streaking Breshad Perriman, having gotten behind the defense, completing the pass for a 94 yard strike, putting the Ravens up 7-0. A three and out from Cincinnati gives the ball back to Baltimore, who begins to march down the field as the first quarter expires, the Ravens leading 7-0. The Ravens' drive stalls deep in Bengals territory, but sets up what's basically a chip shot for Justin Tucker, putting the Ravens up 10-0. Cincinnati is able to get a few first downs the next drive, but again stalls around midfield, punting the ball back to a Baltimore offense that's just getting warmed up. The Ravens dink and dunk down the field over the next five minutes, marching into the Bengals redzone, before Flacco hits Perriman in the endzone once again for a six yard touchdown pass, the Ravens now up 17-0 with time running out in the second quarter. The Bengals get the ball back with under 4 minutes to go in the half, and their offense finally puts together a sustained drive. They move passed midfield, and thanks to a 25 yard run by Jeremy Hill, the Bengals are finally able to get on the board by way of a Randy Bullock field goal, making the score 17-3 with under a minute to go. Baltimore, having only a minute to go, plays conservative and keeps the ball on the ground, running the clock out and heading into the locker room up 17-3. Baltimore's defense steps up out of halftime, holding the AFC's top seed to another three and out, giving the ball back to the Ravens offense. Keeping the ball on the ground and starting to chew the clock, Baltimore moves down the field on a five minute drive, settling for another Tucker field goal, pushing the lead to three scores once again, leading 20-3. Defense takes over for the rest of the quarter, Baltimore forcing another three and out, and Cincinnati's defense forcing a Baltimore punt on their next possession. Another Bengals punt gives the Ravens the ball back as time expires in the third, Baltimore with the ball and in control, leading 20-3. The Ravens keep the ball on the ground, chewing through the final quarter's first five minutes before Flacco hits Kamar Aiken with a 10 yard touchdown strike, putting the Ravens at an almost insurmountable 27-3 with 10 minutes to go. The Bengals take to the air with their next possession, moving into Baltimore's territory in just under two minutes, but inexplicably call for a field goal attempt on 4th and 5 at the 24, which sails wide right and gives Baltimore the ball back with 8 minutes to go. Flacco guides the Ravens on a perfect clock killing drive, moving down the field and chewing over six minutes of clock, before Tucker tacks on a chipshot field goal, extending the lead to 30-3. With under 2 minutes and down 27 points, the Bengals again take to the air, their offense finally coming alive as they move down the field in under a minute, hitting AJ Green in the endzone for an 8 yard touchdown.
