Long story short is you launch yourself off the sample cart into a tiny loading zone near the top of the room and it puts you in the next chapter. Win! Usually you have to sit in this room for 3 minutes waiting for dialogue. https://www.twitch.tv/dabigbooi Coolkid is trying to learn it for the no script category.

It kinda sucks that 90% of a hl2 speedrun is waiting for the dialogue scenes

I've literally never managed to replay HL2 in full because I get sick of the stupid unskippable not-a-cutscene0-honest cutscenes

It makes the game intolerable the first time around, too.

What is the current non-TAS record? I suppose I could look it up, but then I wouldn't be bumping the thread at the same time.

Regardless, 3 minutes has got to be pretty significant.

It actually saves only a minute or so but that's still a lot for what used to be the major unskippable dialogue moment.

It's epic that it changes the game a little since you have to go through the first part with llike 15 HP max...

a little unrelated but how would a PC game be tas'd? doing it on emulators involves using the emulation tools to play it frame-by-frame, abusing the poo poo out of savestates etc., do they just have programs that let them basically do the same thing in a full pc game?

Wormskull
Aug 23, 2009

They have scripts and quicksaves and segmented runs and stuff for this so I guess so.

This game's so badass of a speedrun. The first half anyway.

For a game that old and easily moddable I assume it's not too hard for someone with the right know-how to code something that hooks directly into the game for TAS purposes

Its the only game ive ever put any serious efforts into speedrunning because bunnyhopping in gldsrc engine feels so good.

i think one of the billion versions of smod pretty much removed all of the 'cutscenes' (except the first major one with the teleport) and i played through that a ton. a lot of versions of smod just own, too
