Oh poo poo yall it's tournament time! No major stand-outs this year means we actually get a pretty wide open bracket. Schedule/preview below. ALL TIMES EASTERN, ALL GAMES THIS WEEKEND ARE ON ESPN-U SATURDAY Towson @ #7 Penn State - Noon 4th tournament appearance for Penn State, and they've never gone past round 1. Towson's had a down year but they're still Towson. PSU is only favored by 1 goal and Towson has a very good defense. This should be a good one. Duke @ #6 Johns Hopkins - 2:30PM Hopkins is 8-6 but has only 1 loss at home. Duke finished the year on a 10-2 run. Both goalies are weak. Hopkins is a home underdog because that makes sense. Another great matchup. Air Force @ #5 Denver - 5:00PM Denver has an amazing offense and should cruise. Bill Tierney is a hell of a coach and Trevor Baptiste is winning almost 70% of faceoffs. Air Force has nothing to lose and had a very respectable 12-5 record, but they are really overmatched. You can probably skip this. UNC @ #8 Albany - 7:30PM Fuuuuuuck yes this is the good poo poo. Albany has the #1 offense in the country and will have a red hot crowd. UNC is the defending national champion and had a rough season but won the ACC tournament, which is no small feat. Albany's Connor Fields leads the country with 108 points. Everything about this game is going to own. Watch it. SUNDAY Marquette @ #4 Notre Dame: Noon As programs go in the big picture, Notre Dame is a brutal tournament matchup because they're by and wide the best defensive team year in and year out. This will be close but low-scoring and I'd be surprised to see there be more than 15 total goals. Marquette is a relative newcomer and shouldn't have much pressure on them. Bryant @ #1 Maryland: 2:30PM Maryland is loaded with seniors, and they've been in 3 final fours. Connor Kelly is a joy to watch. Good on Bryant for getting in by killing Monmouth in the play-in game, but they're going to get destroyed. Loyola-MD @ #3 Ohio State: 5:00PM Yep, Ohio loving State of all teams is a 3 seed. Nick Meyers has quietly built a great program in Columbus in his 8 years. Loyola-MD comes in off a bye week. Ohio State is a big physical team and plays like one. They're 9-1 at home. Pat Spencer of the Greyhounds is a Tewaaraton finalist and a spectacular set-up man. Should be a good one. Yale @ #2 Syracuse: 7:30PM Cuse has won 8 games by only 1 goal. Yale has a weak defense but a Tewaaraton finalist in Ben Reeves. John Desko is one of the best coaches in the country and it's hard to bet against him in the playoffs. Syracuse is 12-2 and did earn their 2 seed, but they're escaping in a lot of games and seem to be on borrowed time. This ought to stay close. Enjoy the games, yall.
