Barbara Birke remained alert and conscious nearly up to the end, which came four days after the first signs of rash appeared on her body. For some reason, variola leaves its victims in a state of wakefulness. They see and feel everything that’s happening. In the final twenty-four hours, people with hemorrhagic smallpox will develop a pattern of shallow, almost imperceptible breaths, followed by a deep intake and exhalation, then more shallow breaths. This is known as Cheyne-Stokes breathing, and it can indicate bleeding in the brain. She prayed, and the nuns stayed with her. The Benedictine priest, Father Kunibert, who had offered communion to Peter Los, ended up at Wimbern himself with a mild case of smallpox. He may have given Birke her last rites. As the end approaches, the smallpox victim can remain conscious, in a kind of frozen awareness—“a peculiar state of apprehension and mental alertness that were said to be unlike the manifestations of any other disease,” in the words of the Big Red Book. As the cytokine storm devolves into chaos, the breathing may end with a sigh.

It's less that and more her constant evading of her stance. I'm not aware of any links between autism and vaccinations is the closest she came to being on one side or the other. The green party base is all new age hippies who believe in chiropractic medicine, aroma therapy as a medical procedure, and homeopathy. Those people tend to be anti vaxxers and anti science in general. So by trying to court outside her base she has to be deliberately vague. Anti vaxxers are a huge problem in cali.

Did you read the article? It is proving she never came out and said yeah gently caress vaccines those give autism lol. Then it goes on to illustrate how she constantly evades it and that she thinks the fda and big pharma control vaccinnes when they don't.

then it wraps up with this

snoops posted:

However, her somewhat equivocal statements surrounding that issue allow for a fair bit of leeway and interpretation — many others who proclaim to “support vaccinations” in concept effectively undercut their positions by raising objections to the “vaccination process” or the “vaccination industry.”

In confluent-type ordinary smallpox, which Los had, the blisters merge into sheets, and it is typically fatal. Finally, there is hemorrhagic smallpox, in which bleeding occurs in the skin. Hemorrhagic smallpox is virtually one hundred percent fatal. The most extreme type is flat hemorrhagic smallpox, in which the skin does not blister but remains smooth. It darkens until it can look charred, and it can slip off the body in sheets. Doctors in the old days used to call it black pox. Hemorrhagic smallpox seems to occur in about three to twenty-five percent of the fatal cases, depending on how hot or virulent the strain of smallpox is. For some reason black pox is more common in teenagers. The rims of Barbara Birke’s eyelids became wet with blood, while the whites of her eyes turned ruby red and swelled out in rings around the corneas. Dr. William Osler, in a study of black-pox cases at the Montreal General Hospital that he saw in 1875, noted that “the corneas appear sunk in dark red pits, giving to the patient a frightful appearance.”

By dawn on Thursday, January 15th, his body had become a mass of knob-like blisters. They were everywhere, all over, even on his private parts, but they were clustered most thickly on his face and extremities. This is known as the centrifugal rash of smallpox. It looks as if some force at the center of the body is driving the rash out toward the face, hands, and feet. The inside of his mouth and ear canals and sinuses had pustulated, and the lining of the rectum may also have pustulated, as it will do in severe cases. Yet his mind was clear. When he coughed or tried to move, it felt as if his skin were pulling off his body, that it would split or rupture. The blisters were hard and dry, and they didn’t leak. They were like ball bearings embedded in the skin, with a soft, velvety feel on the surface. Each pustule had a dimple in the center. They were pressurized with an opalescent pus.

She could easily make a general anti- revolving door argument because it certainly isn't an issue just with the FDA and pharma companies but she is focused on that in particular because a large part of the Green's base is anti-vax.

Whether or not she personally says the words "vaccines are bad" is kind of irrelevant in that context.

It's quite easy to pay for universal health care when you have people wait for weeks or months to see a doctor. Also, raising taxes anywhere in the USA is an uphill battle.

I'm not saying that California shouldn't try to impose a single-payer healthcare system, but it's not going to be easy.

I love this argument as if people don't wait weeks or months to see a doctor in the USA.

I just called for a visit. Had to wait a month before I could schedule an appointment, then the doctor ordered procedures that had to be approved by insurance first which took a week then they called me to schedule the procedure for a month later.

nah in the case of vaccines the loss of confidence is literally the fault of a bunch of alternative medicine quacks in concert with the dumb hollywood celebs they've duped. there's a profit motive, but it's from the people trying to sell vitamin megadose or whatever snake oil is supposed to protect you instead of harmful vaccines.

vaccines don't need a revolving door of crony capitalism to get through the FDA, new vaccines for important diseases are a really big deal. the bad stuff that happens with the FDA is much further down the line with the dumb orphan drugs system and questionable approvals for rare diseases. The FDA is one of the better institutions of the Fed, all in all.
