Problem description:
Windows 10 Creators Edition

Using Motherboard Realtek Optical Out to a receiver. Shows up as Realtek Digital Output in playback devices. Receiver is outputting 2.1 sound. Not doing Dolby or anything. Just standard audio out.

Movies and TV App was working fine and responding to the windows volume control while playing MKV files. Now it isn't.

*Something* happened and now Movies and TV is not sending audio out through any device that Windows recognizes. Windows volume control in has no effect. Volume control in Movies and TV doesn't work either (because its the same thing). Mute does not do anything. Essentially audio is somehow getting to Optical Out and not going through the standard windows playback devices.

List of available playback Devices:

When playing an MKV through something like VLC or Media Player Classic, you see activity on the Realtek Digital Out. When playing an MKV through Movies and TV you see no activity on any device. Volume is outputted at 100% to the receiver. If you have something running in Media Player Classic and you play something in Movies and TV then MPC will lose the ability to use the audio device and freeze.

Attempted fixes: Reset Movies and TV. Removed and Reinstalled Movies & TV. Tried another MKV that worked previously.

Recent changes: Installed KB4020102 , which doesn't list any changes to the audio/Movies app. Microsoft occasionally sucks at documenting what the KBs do though.

Operating system: Windows 10 Creators Update

I have Googled and read the FAQ: Yes
