I might be receiving ana.... A Merc Wagon for the first time, what are the common problems with these pension mobiles, are there any forums that specifically tailored to these cars, and where tf can I get interior parts for this thing?

SO, this merc is in semi decent shape, it has ZERO TO LITTLE SURFACE RUST, aint that some poo poo. The interior is shot and looks like dogshit. I'll be replacing... well everything for the interior, dash, seats, some trim, headliner, lesbian carpet, and maybe the speakers. The exterior isn't too bad. It has a couple dents but it's repairable. Definelty swaping the 302 for a 351 with (maybe a c4 or an e4od) and a 3.73 rear w/LSD. Not trying to make it into a drag wagon, just want to make it more fun.

Can anyone help this hipster repair this granny spankwagon?

You follow the path
fitting into an infinite pattern.

Yours to manipulate, to destroy and rebuild.

Now, in the quantum moment
before the closure
when all become one.

One moment left.
One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

It's a Crown Vic wagon in Mercury livery, so I'm assuming knee-jerk that the Mercury-specific trim and appearance components will be the hardest to find.

The seats will be comfortable. Parts will be extremely available for the 302. If it's got a tow package, it can do up to 5,000 lbs. It will drink gasoline, but you will be able to fit a small band and maybe their instruments playably in the vehicle.

Please post pictures asap thanks I need that wood grain like now

I have no idea where you're going to find a new interior for that car! Just came here to say you should put bigger tires on the back and give it some rake like that guy who has the century wagon did.

Some of it's flaked away, but that woodgrain gave me a hard on the moment I saw it. I'm not too worried about the interior being 100% merc, as long as it matches/fits I could care less if it came out of a pinto. I'll post pics next time I'm with it.

Plus i do have a 4 piece band lol, I might transfer the tow package from my 95 bronco onto it. seems to have a better wheel length for towing than the bronc.

I just got finished bringing a 1988 Town Car back from the dead.

You probably want to replace the alternator. The stock one in the '88 Town Car I had was infamous for starting fires, and the harness on it was all corroded so it would not charge.

I replaced the battery and installed a 130A alternator from an OHV Taurus and a maxifuse charge harness from a 1997 F150. With a little bit of clearancing on one of the ears of the alternator, it dropped right in with only one splice for the charge light on the dash.

I removed as much of the old harness as I could and capped it off, and it's been fine ever since. Strongly suggest you do this, as the stock electrical system can barely sustain the stereo and (again) likes to catch fire.

Better pictures, info about what I did is here.

Probably you also want to make sure that the little plastic grommet that holds the TV cable to the throttle linkage hasn't fallen off. If it ever falls off, the transmission will eat itself pretty quickly.

Let me know if you have any more questions! If this Town Car had been a wagon I would probably be keeping it, but as it is I am looking for a buyer.

@Seat Safety Switch,

Thanks for that tip, wtf is with ford and their electronics. I assumed with it being that old the wiring needs to be looked at, plus the owner said the engine does straight die if you go past 60 mph.
What trannys did these things have, aod right?

Yeah I would absolutely not drive one of these things long distances without changing out the alternator. The old harness probably came like this close >< to burning the car down with the previous owner inside; he got lucky that it killed the car before it killed him.

It is an AOD.

Goddamn, long story short I'm supposed to help the owner (old family friend) drive this thing to Florida from VA and move his belongings to the retirement home he's going into. With that being said, I'm assuming constant load on the alternator would send this wagon in flames the moment I got on the highway.

I would check out the harness at the very least and bring a fire extinguisher. I would not be surprised if it's in the same condition as mine, especially somewhere where it gets really hot.

The alternator swap isn't too hard; I thought it would be more work than it was but it came together once we had the parts and clearanced the ear off the alternator.

There are a lot of cars out there still with this crappy alternator design so it's by no means a guarantee it will catch fire; just be aware.

Thanks man, what would I be looking out for when I inspect it, just frayed/exposed connections and all that?

Cracks in the quick-disconnect, green corrosion like in my pictures of it, etc.

It should be pretty obvious if it's really bad.
