I think a large part of Regular Show's charm is how it managed to feel just a tiny bit subversive by basically being a stoner comedy for kids. It managed to be cheeky without being crass, while this just looks more run of the mill crass. Which is okay, but it's a crowded market.

i don't watch TV anymore but I kinda wanna watch this, but I also liked Regular Show a lot. it was the only show I continually watched on Cartoon Network up until I moved three years ago and stopped watching cable. But from what it seemed, I got out at a good time because they were just starting a dumb love triangle arc with Cloudy Jane, Mordecai, and Margaret. It was really awkward and not fun to watch. I loved everything else about RS though so I'll look forward to hearing if this is any good

totally. they'd also make lots of jokes about he'd drop his balls when surprised. Then followed it up by specifying he dropped his gumballs. Because it's a show for children, you see.

See, and to wrap back around to my earlier point, that's a funnier gag than a character who just always walks around with his dick out.

yeah I agree. I'm a strong proponent of the idea that censorship often makes things better because it forces creators to work around ways to get through the censorship, usually smart ways. It's one of the reasons why I didn't care for Futurama after it went to Comedy Central. You've gotta earn your laughs.

I think the only over-arching plots I remember revolved around romantic relationships. Like the bird who wanted to kiss another bird, but ended up kissing a cloud instead and the other bird got mad, and then the cloud got mad that the bird was upset that the other bird was mad. I think this went on for about 4 non-consecutive episodes.

this is a good list, i don't actively seeking out american dad but it's def better than family guy. venture Bros is still really good, it's a shame it takes several years for a season but i suppose that's a fair price for something so good.

i'd maybe add aqua teen hunger force to it? it was a lot of fun, it went on longer than it should have but at its peak it was extremely funny. i kinda figured athf + age - weed = not as funny, but i watched some eps recently and it really held up

i don't ever really talk to anyone about this because the ppl i meet who are vocal about liking these shows make me uncomfortable like when your cashier is very old and keeps licking their lips and then licking their fingers to count out your change and you don't want to take the bills but you have to but christ almighty you don't want to touch their spit and you feel so sad and disgusted and even a little ashamed but my old roommate turned me on to regular show as well as adventure time and steven universe and they're all pretty cool

i always thought of Regular Show as a kid-friendly version of Aqua Teen based on the nonsensical cast of characters and weird situations. i agree with you, mike lazzo is an rear end in a top hat for demanding that season 11 would be the show's last even though the creators had no plans of stopping any time soon

the fifth season had a love triangle between Mordecai, Margaret, and CJ that was terrible (even one of the last episodes admitted as much). the sixth season involved Rigby getting his life together. the seventh and last season was a season-long arc where the park is in space and Pops is revealed to be some kind of chosen being

That is a pity. I'm not a huge fan of the guy but he plays the "douchebag spectrum" ridiculously well and almost always enhances what I see him in.

It's worth a watch. Once the creators realized the alien character gave them license to do literally any plot they wanted, the show perked up a lot. I can't find the really good poo poo, but this is a decent sampler of why the show is still going:

American Dad is fantastic but it dropped off my radar after it went off Fox, which is very unfortunate because it was really the funniest show on that entire block. Where Family Guy has just tried to cram as many random jokes as possible into what has become a boring formula, American Dad actually builds off its characters and makes amusing episodes based on their strengths and weaknesses. Family Guy's characters can change on a whim depending on whatever the joke of the day needs.

Mike Lazzo is totally a jerk. I guess he must be doing something right if AS is still high in the ratings.

aqua teen was always consistently solid. the creators wanted to keep making new episodes for a long time, but mike lazzo is an idiot and told them that the 11th season would be their last whether they liked it or not

the "finale" was a half-hour episode that gave the series closure, but then they had a website-only episode that was the true finale. nothing important happens in it and that whole previous episode was just meatwad watching it on tv. an appropriate send-off imo

I honestly have an easier time relating to a talking meatball than I do to people with kids, and I say that knowing full well how the meatball made friends with a monster made of condoms.
