So this is one of the best short story collections out there, let alone the best in sci fi. It has everything you could possibly want! Nuclear melt down, Des Moines, Iowa, spaceships, an utter condemnation of Libertarianism, and an end to the life insurance industry!

Check it out for real! The first story is about a dude who figures out when exactly someone will die, and advises people on it so they can plan accordingly.

Another story references Des Moines, Iowa a ton and has a happy ending, despite the dire straights the people are in, stuck in space!(the best story due to the aforementioned Des Moines references)

One of the best ones is about a dude who says "gently caress this big Guv'ment" and leaves to a place where Libertarians hold sway in the name of "freedom". He finds out Libertarianism isn't all it is made out to be and has to make some tough decisions.

Another one of the great ones is about a mormon hegemony in the United States that has changed everything into a theocracy, and how the very foundation of liberty is threatened by theocracy. Some deep stuff.

Also many of his stories feature strong, intelligent female leads, which is something of an anomaly in writing prior to this point-most of these were published before 1950!

Heinlein was truly ahead of his time. Whether you're just bored on breaks at work, or stranded because of a life shattering hurricane, be sure to read some of Heinlins works, probably starting with his collection of short stories: A Past Through Tomorrow.

Be sure to also read, Starship Troopers, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, and probably my favorite, Time Enough for Love. Also Glory Road if you want more Iowa references
You'll learn a lot about Libertarianism, Religion, and Sexism and how its all garbage.

Share your favorite Heinlein stories here! Not the movies though because most don't hold true to the original ideals in the books.

I have to admit Time Enough For Love blew my socks off the first time I read it. It was the first Heinlein book I ever read so I went in totally blind, and when I got to the end I couldn't believe my eyes, I felt like I'd been tricked and got kind of upset.

It's a big line he crossed, but I got over it. (Not going to spoil it.)

I'm not a sci fan fan but the guy definitely walked to a different drummer and was fascinating.

Highly recommend the book.

Reading a sci fi book and then the last 5 pages it turns into incest porn. Self indulgent on Heinlein's part

In retrospect it was hilarious because it featured both incest and instances of cannibalism involving white slaves who were occasionally eaten by their black slave masters.
