yeah I’m gonna round that down to “hidden”

but thanks for the stage manager icon, apple tells me the iPad Air (5th gen) is the minimum requirement for stage manager but i don’t recall what my model is off the top of my head or if I’ve seen that icon before on it. it’s at work now, ill check when i go in tomorrow.

does stage manager actually let you create, like, a permanent shortcut to a certain window arrangement? sometimes I want notability split with my calculator, sometimes i want notability full screen, i want to switch between those two states with minimum fuss. I tried stage manager on my MacBook Air and it was inscrutable

ah well, i'm using it on a 5th gen ipad air lol. maybe that's why it runs like dogshit

i don't think you can save a certain window arrangement, but honestly if i don't absolutely need its functionality (i.e. multitasking between two ostensibly fullscreen-only apps) i never enable it, it's hands down the worst ui apple has ever come up with and is using it is imo just an exercise in extreme frustration. so idk what happens if you e.g. frequently use a certain configuration or leave it enabled across reboots/locks etc. but i doubt that'd save anything

i just checked if you might be able to make a shortcut that opens and rearranges the windows for you and it doesn't seem like they have that functionality, either, although you can enable stage manager and open apps, so maybe there's some roundabout way

the window splitting menu isn't quite hidden, it's the three sometimes not-very-visible dots at the top (always centered). if there's only one app/view open it'll just have one at the top, but each split window gets their own, so subsequent menus are at the top center of their view

i don't think every ipad got stage manager, but i think if it allows split view then you should also be able to get stage manager. you enable it from the control center with this

iirc only the ones with m-series socs have stage manager. there was a big stink when the m1 ipad air initially wasn't supported for it while the m1 ipad pro was. apple ended up adding it to the air anyway

what's really dumb is that stage manager exists in macos too, like anyone would want to use that poo poo on a desktop or laptop

i use full-screening and spaces really heavily and am always surprised to hear that other people just don’t. only complaint i have is that some apps drop back to windowed mode too easily and end up get reordered and undermining my muscle memory

i use full-screen a whole lot, but that's just... the default view in ipados, no?

you might be right, i don't remember this ipad lacking stage manager at first (and i did test the betas iirc) but that might just be because i hate it lol

the 2018 pros have it, but it has some limitation (maybe things background/freeze more frequently?) and they don't support an external display at the same time

iirc it was added after much grousing by users. i used it for about 20 minutes then not until just now to check that it was still available

i'd rather the external display, since it's a perfectly fine general browser device. mirroring makes everything stupid gigantic and stage manager makes things to small and chunky on the 11" to me

idk if the 2018 pro has this, but it should since it's pretty close to the ipad air 5. you can set your "display zoom" to "more space" which helps a lot with things being too big imo

it does, thanks! stage manager feels way better, not quite split full screen, but much more usable

if the competition are Honda Civics, the the Vision Pro is a luxury super yacht. the problem is you’re in Montana

another problem with the analogy is that cars and boats are not directly comparable in functionality beyond "carries passengers" where the vision pro and other vr sets basically do the same thing except "carries porn"

it doesn't support any of the common existing formats for 3D video (it only supports apple's proprietary spatial video format that can only be produced by iphone 15s)

99% of 3D video watching hours is VR porn
