Jizz Festival posted:Oh jesus, how has nobody mentioned Zero Squared? Each episode has Douglas Lain of Zero Books (publisher of Kill All Normies and a bunch of other great books) interviewing a guest. The focus is on philosophy rather than current events, and Doug's not afraid to go deep into the weeds of philosophical disagreements if his guests are also willing. Zero Books also puts out youtube videos that might give you an idea of what they're all about. Have been enjoying the podcast, many thanks for the rec!

Rated PG-34 posted:a lotta equivocating on what was and what wasnt in the movie ugh yeah folks were reading in a lot of stuff. i mean, i agree with t and leslie about the movie, its just that they should have probably kept this one in the can because the yelling is extremely embarrassing. getting legit mad over movies is funny if you want to be laughed at, i guess

another case of 'not exactly a lefty pod', but Revolutions is a good listen for a few reasons. each season covers the history behind some revolution in world history or other. partly i recommend this because the history is interesting poo poo, in particular in that he goes into good detail on the real reasons behind the assorted poo poo that went down, as opposed to the normal high school history you get that steamlines it down to "the colonists were upset about taxes and threw tea into the harbor and then we won the war of independence". this is especially true of the very lengthy third season about the French revolution. but mostly it's good because he also goes into some detail about the assorted organizing praxises... praxii? praxes?... that the revolutionary groups used to get poo poo together always initially politically, and then when the need inevitably arose, to enact change by some measure of force. intentionally or not he covers the how and they why of that organizing, and after the fact, the what worked versus what got the Girondins guillotined (hint: they got called out on twitter for being ablist). Edit- and just now it looks like Chapo dropped an interview with the guy, weird timing. Iridium has issued a correction as of 16:36 on May 23, 2018 |

I tried listening to Dead Pundits Society, because one of their hosts, Aimee Terese, was on Rev Left Podcast's episode where she did a good takedown of Sam Harris, Steven Pinker, and Jordan Peterson. Their latest episode was on what does democratic socialism actually mean, and I kinda gave up on the ep after both their guest speaker and the host began with and ran with the assertion that democratic socialism might not work in Kentucky and the Midwest, compared to the "Brooklyn socialism" of someone like Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, while also citing Bernie Sanders's difficulty in winning over the African-American vote. Consider: I’ve spoken to hundreds of voters in “flyover country.” Socialism is an easy sell.
