I haven't seen this posted previously in the thread, but I have been getting a kick out of this fan series made with AI voice generation and anime-inspired AI images: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-MZCYC2ctg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewlLztjaX_8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07WRSIqHqrM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH2An0xaDkw

I said come in! posted:I wanted more to do on Motherbase, although I honestly couldn't tell you what I would want, I guess more immersive / sim like stuff that are just fun or relaxing. And the ability to go into missions with AI or even co-op with other players, but that would have been way out of the scope for MGSV, maybe in a sequel but that will never happen. Needed more stuff actually happening, people were on guard and walking around, but they never seemed to do anything, there was no barracks to visit where they slept or hung around, so you couldn't catch them goofing off or see the progress of individual staff as they ranked up to better quarters, or took control of a new area. Being able to get into a small motorboat to get around underneath would have been fun as well, and an opportunity to visit maintenance staff if they existed. And a helicopter agility course where you get to fly around Motherbase, Pilotwings style. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psXNk8GV2Uc TheMostFrench fucked around with this message at 07:36 on Apr 27, 2024 |

Hey kids, guess where we're going this summer! Maybe that'll be enough to stay under XOF's radar. Also, I ran into a funny mechanic I'd forgotten about today - I was cleaning up some tank units in the side ops, and had the idea to put everyone to sleep before walking up and yoinking them away. But I forgot that tanks don't count as people, and they'll just sit there repeatedly honking their tank horn to wake up the lazy soldiers that mysteriously keep falling asleep right around them

Peace Walker taught us that it's not YOUR kill if you knock a bunch of guys out and line them up in front of a moving tank.

"Snake, are you familiar with the concept of Time Zones? It seems that, because of the Earth's nature as a spherical object orbiting the Sun..."

I finished yet another playthrough of MGS1 today. For the first time I discovered that you can throw Liquid around in the fistfight with the square button. If you get behind him and get him in a chokehold he flips you over his back to the floor. I ended the fight by tossing his rear end off of REX after lowering his health enough which was pretty amusing! The whole climax, man, that is still an all timer ending sequence, some cheesy dialogue aside. The jeep chase is one of my all time favorite moments in a game. It's not super mechanically dense or anything, but the combination of everything that has happened up until that point, the red lights of the tunnel flying by, and the incredible "Escape" music playing is so peak. I've been critical in the past of the regular overhead perspective forcing the player to overly rely on the radar for the basic gameplay, but I've developed a deeper appreciation for the visual opportunities the game provides the player with, with things like the constant unique camera angles you get when pressing against walls and crouching near certain objects. If the gameplay wasn't basically still happening on a 2D plane, sniping and rockets aside, I don't think it would work, but it's a nice balance here. If the idea of MGS is to provide a blended cinematic and gameplay experience, I think utilizing those elements as much as possible and putting the player in the cinematographer's seat helps the whole formula come together on an even higher level. And then the actual cutscenes are still almost entirely great in terms of direction and voice acting, of course. There's a few of the pacing issues that the sequels increasingly suffered from, but overall it's a pretty brisk and still top-notch experience. It's aging like wine for me.
