I don’t think a Comedy Central cartoon had a big effect on American politics lol.

Bogus Adventure posted:I think they started freaking out about their past political nihilism once Trumpism started gaining steam. They really seemed to turn a corner in the 2010s with their "You're old, everything is poo poo" episode then years later with PC Principal (over the whole SJW thing) that was obviously influenced by what they once thought. Then when Trumpism became a serious force they had a whole moment where Mr Garrison had a small speech saying "Vote for her, she knows government better at the very least because I didn't think I would get this far" instead of going "lol both sides suck a Giant Tampon/Orange Turd". It's interesting taking that and looking back.

But they are cartoonish and not cartoons. So can I just count anything with a large amount of porn? (Every cartoon fandom can go to hell is what I mean.)

They have some episodes that I thought were absolutely hilarious, like Cartman thinking he could make Butters gay by putting Butters' weiner in his mouth. There are some that feel poignant, like the "future Stan"/anti-drug episode. Then there are some that feel super cynical, like Turd Sandwich v. Giant Douche. I'd be interested in seeing the Trump/Garrison stuff, but poo poo is too real nowadays to be able to laugh at stuff like that.

Yeah, South Park has largely moved away from the "truth is in the middle" thing since ~2011/2012, in fact they have hardly been taking political stances at all. There were some great episodes between 2012 and two seasons ago, but the last two seasons were crap. In 2016 they attempted to full on heavy serialization, but it fell apart because you can't have it both ways - either you write episodes about recent events week by week or you plan out your entire season's story arc. Then last year it was like they were defeated by the previous season's failure and completely phoned it in.

I just remembered the parents thought scaring their kids shitless was better than telling them stuff like "weed makes you feel okay with being bored when you should be enjoying life."
