"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

My mom and I have tickets to see Springsteen on Broadway in May and we've been to NYC a lot before but we've always stayed in Manhattan and it's likely we may not get back for a while, so we're looking to stay somewhere different and I'm trying to decide where in Brooklyn would be cool to stay.

I'm looking on VRBO for an apartment because we need a little more space than a hotel room, and there seems to be decent availability in most of the neighborhoods. Subway accessibility and ease of use would be nice, but ideally a neighborhood we could spend some time in and eat some good food in is what I'm really looking for. What neighborhoods should I be focussing in on?

Butt dance.
Williamsburg would probably be fun for you, especially near the waterfront. Depending on what vibe you're going for, also check out Cobble Hill (near Smith and Atlantic) and Park Slope around the Fifth Avenue strip.

Yes, I am very cereal.
How much should I realistically be expecting to spend in NY per day? I'm there for 5 days in late July, staying with a friend so thankfully not blowing money on a hotel. I'm not on a tight budget, but I'm not the kind of person to throw money on shopping/fancy dinners etc. I'm just not really sure what to expect - $100 a day? $150? More?

as much or as little as you want, honestly. You could eat pizza and street dogs and go walking around to all of the really cool parks and spend very little, maybe $25-30 a day, or you can shopping and eat fancily and go see a big show every night and drop the big bucks.

Do you have anything in particular planned?

not the analytical engine
In Manhattan, you can get extremely decent pizza from 2 Bros. for $1-$2 / slice

Good luck on the other $134
