I frequently travel to Taipei every few months, and every time I stay at the same business hotel and have gotten to know some of the staffs there. There's a taxi driver that frequents the place who usually takes me to the airport, what I usually do is that when I bump into him in the lobby I let him know when I need a pick up. If I don't bump into him at all then I would ask the doorman on duty to pass the message to my driver on when I need a pickup.

What happened is the last two, three times I was there, I asked the doorman inform my driver, but ended up getting a taxi that I don't know, when I asked where's my usual driver, I was told that he wasn't available. So finally on the last trip, I initially told the doorman to tell my taxi driver when to pick me up, only to bump into my driver in the lobby the next day : he had no idea that I wanted a pick up, so I arranged one with him there and then. So on the way to the airport, I questioned him about what's going on with him and the doorman, he didn't give me any details but just said that that some guys in the hotel's dooman roster don't like to play straight.

Now I'm thinking if I should let the hotel management know about this. Normally I wouldn't care about some other company's internal politics, but this is a hotel that I've been staying at for more than 10 years, I know the daytime manager by name and he knows me as well. I'm aware that taxi driving in big city is cutthroat competitive and getting kickbacks is common. Still it does make me a little angry that I've been lied to just so the doorman can make an extra buck or two. So I'm debating whether I should let the manager know about this, on the virtue that I've known them for a long time and they're running a boutique business hotel, not a hostel. Or not say a work just stay at a different hotel instead.

Just want to see if I can get 2nd opinions from people here who may have run into similar situation before or have insights on the inner working of hospitality or taxi industry? This isn't about trying to get a free room upgrade or any compensation. Deep down there's the satisfaction of knowing the guy that lied to me may end up in trouble, but I also wonder if I would end up creating bigger issues and hurt my driver's livelihood, simply because I don't know what's going in their internal politics.

Any suggestions?

You got a valid complaint, so make it. Don't overcomplicate things.

The Socialist Workers Party's newspaper proved to be a tough sell to downtown businessmen.
Tell the manager that you have a relationship with your taxi guy and ask him to make sure the staff know that you prefer to deal only with him. There's no need to call anyone out.

Really?

Why don't you just call the taxi guy directly if this "relationship" is so important.

Most hotels I've been at will never call you a specific driver. (You get who is there or who is on call with whichever company they have a relationship with.)

Complaining in this case to hotel management seems frivilous. Don't waste their time.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy this week.

Seems like a there's pros and cons for both side, but I've been working over this in my head as well. I think I'm overthinking the issues and it's indeed frivolous. Maybe a good time to explore a new hotel anyway.

Thanks all!!

Clearly the best thing to do here is:

Doorman - Suck his cock.
Preferred driver - Cock.
Random taxi - Cock.
Hotel manager - Cock.

tell the doorman to cut the poo poo, you want the driver you want. Then tip him a few bucks and tell him he only gets tipped if you are satisfied with the service you receive.

Is it normal for the doorman to act as the concierge and make those kind of arrangements in Taipei?
