gonna hit you with his cockatrice
I have a number of different generators on my site, but I've been working more on my town generator lately to help fill out those gaps in games where the players arrive in a new town and suddenly you're scrambling to fill it full of people and places. The town generator is also linked to my npc generator, so as it creates people it will provide a link where you can get a detailed description of each person in the village with their description, history, motivations, etc. I try to write descriptions that are a little more detailed and useful than most standard generators which are usually just bullet points, and also throw in some possible story hooks or conflicts.

Considered just posting this in a D&D thread, but it's a bit more general purpose than that and could be useful for multiple game systems. Hope that's okay.

Here's an example small town generated with it. Towns can range from tiny hamlets to huge capitals which affects which shops and buildings are found in it. Towns can have taverns, blacksmiths, alchemists, jewelers, enchanters, general stores, and different house types.

quote:

Edmont, Hamlet

Population: 36, Size: 1 acres
Wealth: 180 gp. Max value for sale: 12 gp. Max pawn value: 63 gp
Demographics: Elf (42%), Human (32%), Halfling (14%), Half-Elf (5%), Dwarf (4%), Gnome (2%), Half-Orc (1%)

Edmont has an awful smell, and is known for having tough warriors. The ruler is weak and manipulated by their council. There is some tension between the races.

Dried corn is strewn in a corner which a couple chickens peck at.

And an example NPC if you click on details (or go straight to the npc generator):
https://www.kassoon.com/dnd/npc-generator/040000000000000/998804/john-crane-male-elf/

quote:

John Crane, Male Elf

Description: This exceptionally lanky man wears rags and sports a simple walking cane. Sporting a chestnut mohawk and bushy mustache this man's hair draws a lot of attention. His hazel eyes show the wear and tear of someone lonely with a great burden to carry.

Personality: He fancies himself a trickster and likes to rely on his wits to carry the day. He cares for his older siblings and likes to be recognized by them. He refers to his adoptive mother for almost all things he is unsure about, which are numerous. He is very much still a child and has not developed a drive for self-dependency.

History: The child of southern immigrants he idolized his mother. Like his mother and his sister before him, after school he went straight into learning to become a Butcher. He tends to his Butcher job now, and dutifully fulfills any obligations he has.

Motivation: To clean up the streets. And balancing his hectic life and new butcher responsibilities is difficult.

Occupation: Butcher
