I'm a weirdo who is facinated by strange diseases and gross bodily things. I imagine some of you are also these weirdos. Let's be weirdos together and share our love for our disgusting bodies! You know what are cool? Teratomas. Teratoma literally means 'monsterous tumor', and it's easy to see why. Teratomas are germ cell tumors, containing cells relating to all three germ layers: mesoderm, ectoderm, and endoderm. Because of this and the embryonic cells they contain, teratomas are full of various weird things that most tumors aren't. The most common teratoma is a dermoid cyst of the ovary, which very often contain lots of hair and sebum (the tumor contains sebaceous glands). They can also get huge. I did a necropsy on a rat last year with a huge dermoid cyst that took up almost her entire abdomen. Contained a little hair but mostly sebum. Wish I kept those pictures... Some teratomas also contain other tissues such as bone, teeth, and eyes. Heck, there are even fetiform teratomas that have fetus-like features. This is different than fetus in fetu, where a parasitic twin is located inside the body of a fetus or neonate. Pictures behind links because they're pretty gross. They have a huge collection of medical oddities and it's just a really special place to spend a day. http://muttermuseum.org

Does it count if nobody really knows what's up? Because Tarrare is a fascinating and gross story. He also had a contemporary

quote:Tarrare told Percy that he had swallowed a golden fork two years earlier, which he believed was lodged inside him and causing his current weakness. He hoped that Percy could find some way to remove it. Percy, however, recognised that he had advanced tuberculosis. It couldn't be the live animals I consumed, it must be the fork! The consuming hunger reminds me of Prader-Willi Syndrome, but he doesn't really fit the bill outside of it.

https://youtu.be/FgkYxecaWGM This Dr. Vikram does blackhead extractions. I don't get much acne so I just have to handsomely live vicariously through his vids. It's relaxing to watch that poo poo pop but also gross.
