Welcome to the megathread for my favourite artist of modern music, Mac DeMarco. If you've never listened to Mac, his music combines rock guitars, sexy keyboards and a dirty bass line once in a while. He is known in the indy scene for being an goofy oddball that dresses like your dad in the 90s. Also he has a gap tooth like a motherfucker. Some of his best songs to get into the mood of things His "signature sound" off of his best album. This is "Blue Boy" off of Salad Days https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89Vpt67TIyQ Mac at his moodiest and most synth based. "Chamber of Reflection" off of Salad Days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY8IS0ssnXQ Mac has a lot of fans for his seemingly carefree, silly style. This live performance of "Freaking out the Neighbourhood" has a fan come onstage to play guitar and he absolutely kills it. Pay close attention for Mac pausing during a chorus for 3 seconds to light another smoke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5uBKQXOGo0 Heres another good example of Mac's sound. Also one of the most bizarre little music videos ever. This is "passing out pieces" off of Salad Days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF7P3oq8Enc Mac DeMarco Albums -------------------------------------------------------------------- Rock and Roll Night Club - Released 2012 This is the only one I haven't fallen in love with yet. I just cant get into the style as compared to what his sound evolved into. Very bar - rocky. "2" - Released 2012 The first album that put him on the map. Standout tracks like "Cooking up Something Good" about his dad being a methhead and "Freaking out the Neighbourhood" is a very solid jam. Salad Days - Released 2014 In my opinion his most solid, track to track album. Just dripping in the surfer sound but also with some weirder and deeper tracks as well. Blue Boy, Salad Days, Let Her Go, Chamber of Reflection, Passing out Pieces, etc etc etc. One of my fav albums released by anyone since 2000. Another One - Released 2015 Mini LP with some good tracks. Standout track is the title name. Music video for the track has Mac playing the keyboard in the ocean wearing a Michael Jackson mask. This Old Dog - Released 2017 Very solid album, some fans didn't like it as much as his previous as the sound became more guitar centric and less weird, but still lots of greatness on here. Still beating and One More Love Song are great , and Wolf Who Wears Sheeps Clothes is Mac's impersonation of a Jimmy Buffet song and somehow that works great. So what are your fav Mac songs? Bonus weirdo documentary that is a good watch when you are high. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JStLz_vkEm8 vincentpricesboner fucked around with this message at 12:55 on Jul 15, 2018 |

Ode to Viceroy and My Kind Of Woman are probably my favorite songs of his. I liked it when he intentionally pissed/poo poo himself onstage.

I liked last year's release, but it's not something I have really revisited since the few weeks I listened to it. '2' and 'Salad Days' are two great releases, though. Loved his live show. I respect a fellow gap-toothed person.

I've been really enjoying his latest one. I'm glad he changed his sound up somewhat. Also greatly appreciate he was one of the few artists who didn't cover the same 3 Prince songs everyone else did after he died.

Doubt most people in this thread would have missed this one, but love this rendition of Still beating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpp1HXpDdIM

Crooked Rain posted:Doubt most people in this thread would have missed this one, but love this rendition of Still beating: Thats pretty great. I didn't fall in love with This Old Dog on the first few listens, but I do appreciate it more now. I still prefer the weirdness of a Chamber of Reflection better, but this stuff is very good too.
