I occasionally hate Saturday’s. I get ~52 of the bastards a year and sometimes you get only half done what you needed to and that didn’t even include fun stuff.

My wife wonders why I stay up late. It’s because I can’t get anything done when it needs doing. Nobody interrupts me when I’m the only one awake.

RIP.

I'm not sure what to do now. I'm down to the Saabaru, which is practical but I don't get any joy out of driving. In the Saabaru I feel like I'm confined in a cave, pushing around a heavy machine; in the Miata I felt like I was flying like a wind-up mechanical bird.

I can host two cars in my current living situation but I'm not sure if I'm going to move in the future. I'm looking at new jobs and don't know if I'm going to drive or bike to my next one. There will probably still be driving in my future back and forth between my kid's mom's house.

I'd like to get this as a replacement but I'm not sure it makes sense to do so right now: https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/d/2010-mazda-mx-5-miata/6704553450.html

It does seem well-priced NC2 spec'ed the way I want it (Bilstein/LSD/etc), already has a hitch for my bike rack, etc - basically the best NC option I've seen, and it's close to me.

I could disable the passenger airbag and put my kid up front while he's still rear-facing (another 2-3 years). Jury's still out how safe it'd be once he's forward facing/in a booster, I need to do more research. If he'd be safe enough, I could renounce women altogether, sell the Saabaru and make the NC2 my only vehicle, practicality be damned.

you should just stop asking us because you never do any of the things we suggest

Don't have a Miata as your only car with a baby, it's not about you anymore. Keep the Saab because it's the safest option for your child.

I'm guilty of not changing my oil in time. I kinda forgot about the "if the car travels <10kkm and is mainly used in cities" bit. Otherwise it's every 24 months. Changed it last week though, (at 24 months) along with doing the spark plugs and gearbox oil. Still have to do the timing and aux belt and brake fluid change. Though I think I should have a year on the timing belt. But kinda want to follow the service manuals and get the piece of mind of knowing that it's a fresh belt.

(and can't post for 11 years!)

I just go by the car's built in oil change reminder.

Which is usually every 3-4 months, or 8-10k (miles).

I run Mobil 1 high mileage every time, and usually AC Delco filters. Last car handled that from 60k-203k, finally developing a timing chain rattle at startup around 190k and a pretty bad leak around the same time. Got this one at 136k, up to 155k now. Old car originally used 1 qt between changes, was up to a little over 2 qts by the time it got written off. This one is right at 1 qt between changes (same year/make/model/engine).

Maybe a little crusty. It was the clerks suggestion that I just buy new ones because they would be cheaper.

I though 3 months was ridiculously short intervals, but reading through the owners manual for a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, that's exactly what it wants. Either engines and/or oils have come a long way in 12 years, or manufacturers have become much more interesting in not hassling their lease customers....

Nice to see that the owners manual contains instructions on how to do oil changes, coolant changes, etc etc.

Same but getting up early with the mutts. Never enough time and always too much to do. Sat/Sun mornings are my time to get stuff done, dogs are tired/lazy and she sleeps in. Can't make a ton of noise in the garage but otherwise that's my time.

Dumb question since I've never dealt with this before. I need to order a 60amp breaker for my panel, want to make sure I get the right kind. Panel is a Siemens I-T-E from around 1990, series B catalog number g2440MB1200CU. Should be as simple as getting a Siemens I-T-E breaker right?

Double check, but from the number, it takes an EQ breaker. Look at what's in there now, size and how it mates to the bus bars and then get the same.

What is the best pick up lines to use on some-one with a proper shed and hoist?
For the past few months I've noticed around the corner from me someone has a large shed at the end of the driveway and I'm like "yeah I notice you EB ford falcon (probably a barra project), focus ST, 300c, toyota chaser" etc as I drive past.
I drove past tonight and they had the shed door open and I can see a car up on a lift and my heart just melted... I could roll my busted heart down the hill there

Can you not just cover everything on it except for the vehicle details and perhaps your name/address on it?

I guess if he wants proof that you have it and that the car is the right one this should be sufficient?

Finally got the CV joint fixed on my Micra, the repair got severely complicated after I accidentally pulled the entire drivers side drive shaft out of the gearbox, spilling most of the oil out of said gearbox.

At least now I know how to change gearbox oil (it's very easy once you get the filler plug out). Also learned it really makes a difference in shifting and driving feel if your gearbox is feeling sorta crunchy.

Now to get to the spun wheel bearing...
