I am a tall fella with large hands, but a a skinny frail body which poses some problems. My first guitar was a strat that I felt weighed a little heavy for me and made practicing sitting for long periods of time uncomfortable. I normally practice while seated. My next guitar, which unlike the strat, was NOT an impulse purchase, is a Prestige Musician. It's a hollow body and weighs a little less heavy, but the dang thing is enormous. I've gotta kind of hug it to play it seated and it wears on my elbows. It's a very fine guitar besides this.

The guitar I have with me, which has been the favorite guitar I've owned is a Mustang reissue. It's the perfect size, is super easy to play and doesn't weigh too much at all. The problem is the bridge is pretty dumb and it goes out of tune all the drat time. Also, the pickups buzz like mad and it's generally pretty cheap.

What I want this thread to be is not just the place where people goldilocks out about guitar feel, but a thread where you tell me what neat guitars I should check out that feel like a Mustang, but are much much better.

Inshallah

Extremely grim and evil.
The current Mustangs have replaced the wonky trem with a regular ol' Strat hardtail: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MustMOLV--fender-mustang-olive-with-maple-fingerboard

Wow, I had no idea. It's unfortunate that the new Mustangs look kind of like toys.

Yeah, it's kind of baffling that Fender doesn't make a more upscale Mustang since it's come to have a lot more appeal beyond just being cheap.

The duo-sonic is pretty small

True, though both the duo-sonic and the Mustang were marketed originally as student guitars and haven't lost that cheap feeling in most of the models I've seen. Also, given how similar they are I'm not sure I'd want to add a duo-sonic into my collection, having a Mustang already, which is both beautiful and perfect https://imgur.com/vixImcI

I've done some looking around since this starting this thread and have found two guitars I would love to own if I were a bit braver and if price wasn't a factor. They are:

The St. Vincent Music Man

The Gretsch Billy-Bo

Reviews on the St. Vincent seem especially positive.

I have a Sterling version (i.e. the "budget" version) of the St Vincent signature model, and I really like it. The three mini-humbucker pickup configuration is quite versatile, and overall the guitar is just fun to play, on top of looking really cool.

I tend to prefer lightweight guitars, and aside from that St Vincent model, the other one I that play is an Ibanez S series. Very thin and lightweight, I'd recommend trying one out if you can, to see if it fits you.
