Congrats on only losing one ship because you didn't tell them to full burn it out of there.

Got the game because of this thread. A tactic I've grown fond of in point capture maps is using Spire to capture the most out of the way point, the bulk of my navy to take the second, and then micro warp jumping him into the fray when everyone converges on the third point.

How did this smug dummkopf ever make general?

I like that strategy too, but inverse. The Lunar's slower than light cruisers, so I park it at the closest point.

I'dve loved to have saved it, but chances are the warp would've killed it anyway regardless.

So does it make sense to prioritise your Admech fleet for reinforcement since you've got a Forge World that buffs new AdMech ships, or are their planets that buff the Space Marine/Imperial Navy ships under your control now?

thetruegentleman posted:

Space Marine getting spooked by the Warp seems kinda dumb though.

Also, Mechanics ships don't want to ram if you can avoid it; they don't really have the armor or moral for it.

There's your answer. :colbert:

Serious note, new ships are a big decision, one level here or there doesn't factor too much with me. I believe we now have a Navy world, but I'll break down all the planets and the lore snippets included in the game.

As for the Space Marines, they don't face morale checks - they Know No Fear - so the bravery event has no impact.

That must have been a fun conversation:

Scribe :downs:: "Captain, according to our research, your ship crew has spent enough time in the Warp to become unreliable. You should inform your Commissars to keep extra vigilant."

Astartes Captain : "My crew has no Commissars, and their reliability is beyond question."

Scribe :downs:: "Yes, every captain has perfect faith in their crew, but statistically-"

Astartes Captain : "My ship has repelled attacks by horrors beyond your imagination, Scribe. They have never faltered against anything less than a mortal wound; as such, your words are nothing more than an insult."

Scribe :downs:: "Be that as it may, your ship is still required to have Commissars according to Imperial Navy law."

Astartes Captain : "We are NOT Imperial Navy."

Scribe :downs:: "Your ship is using Imperial Navy ammo and works in an Imperial Navy fleet, which makes it-"

Astartes Captain : "Entirely independent, by word of the Emperor."

Scribe :downs:: "..even so, I'm still required to note the possibility of increased Warp-related stress."

Astartes Captain : "Spire asked me not to kill you as a personal favor to him, but I suggest you leave within the next five minutes."

Incidentally I was just as unimpressed by the AdMech light cruiser offerings as you, so I waited until I unlocked full cruisers and just grabbed a Dictator

I probably had a good bit more flexibility in ship creation though considering I'm not playing on hard and *man* it sure shows in terms of the number of enemies you have to face

The primary advantage of the AdMech fleet is that their cruisers pretty much all have Nova Cannons, which once you mass a firing line of them, can pulverise enemy fleets at range.

Unfortunately on Hard, the AI is smart enough to dodge them.

No, we won't. If these idiots ignore such important things as The Holy Anointments of Oil or the Percussive Rites of Correction, or *gasp* even the Psalm of Deca-I-O Digiprestitation then these false infidel Techpriests will lead us to destruction just as surely as a fel Heretek

Well, at least be glad the Conqueror doesn't appear to be in this game. The flagship of the World Eaters, captained during the Heresy by an ordinary human woman who shot a World Eater captain in the face for dereliction of duty and lived to tell about it. The Conqueror was a Gloriana fitted with anti-ship grappling hooks. Yes, really.

Her fate hasn't [yet] been established, and that bit with shooting a World Eater captain happened during the Heresy but before any daemonic ascensions started happening. She was certainly Angron's personal choice to command his flagship, a close friend of a certain World Eater captain named Kharn, and was generally acknowledged by everyone to fit right in with the legion.

So yeah, if she survived the Heresy she most likely is a daemon princess nowadays, most likely still a part of the Conqueror. Even before the Heresy, the World Eaters strongly preferred to fight naval battles via boarding and had a whole chapter dedicated to the job, and Lotara was given a unique award made up by Angron and Kharn just for her, the Blood Hand, before the Heresy broke out.

We'll start,
like many good things,
with a bear.

It's interesting how much they've incorporated ramming and boarding and all of that.

That was quite a battle at Cadia. For some reason I kept thinking those defense platforms were another wave of goddamn Infidels being held in reserve until you got through to engaging them, so I thought Litany of Ramming was in a lot more trouble for the mop-up than it was.

I'm mostly fine, just uh, not good for recording or long sessions. Been messing around with different configurations to improve the workflow while out of commission though, so hopefully after this lull, it should be smooth sailing.

So what's up with the Cadia system? When we last saw the planet it looked like is was about to get smashed up and evacuation was underway. Is there other important stuff in the system off-planet/

It’s the System closest to the Eye of Terror, so it’s usually the first defense against the big Chaos Incursions that happen every few hundred years known as the Black Crusade. Of which official canon had the 13th(?) be successful.

Cadia Prime, which is the fourth planet in the Cadia System and is one of the most earthlike planets in the Imperium, had/has control over the Cadian Gate, the only place one can safely navigate in and out of the Eye of Terror on a large scale.

Cadia Prime has mandatory armed service for everyone starting at age 15 I want to say, and it lasts 5 years minimum. The Cadian Tactician

It’s the place of birth of the legendarily memetic Lord Castellan/General Usarker E. Creed. Who’s Mastery of tactical genius allows him to infiltrate any unit up to Baneblades behind Lamp-posts.

Also the planet itself has giant Necron Pylons that stop the Eye of Terror from expanding and if they were ever activated correctly could close it permanently but nobody in the Imperium can work out how to use them. When Abaddon destroyed Cadia the Eye of Terror expanded and practically ripped the Galaxy in half.

Also Abbadon the Disappointer's previous campaigns were totally not failures, you guys. He'd actually been attacking the Imperium 12 times to destroy other pylon-y worlds that were containing the Eye of Terror and that totally wasn't retconned in.

Also: there are Taus on the global campaign? I eventually got bored with the game because of how easy it seems to be to slightly miss with attempted rams.

Which is REAL BAD when you're playing nids.
(Still wanna play as Orks though)

Looks like they're debuting a patch allowing absurdly gargantuan fleet battles, so when Technical Difficulties are resolved, there may be some fun stuff in the wings for bonus videos. On the other hand, I just looked at the patch notes, and...

quote:

- Power ram upgrade reduced from 0.5 to 0.25

So, y'know. There's that tradeoff in the situation.

Right, throwing a name that should either go on a battleship to make sense, or go on a light cruiser or escort for the irony. Either way, THE BIGGER FISH sails for glory!
