12:01 PM is a half hour short film starring Kurtwood Smith made in the early nineties. Smith is stuck in a time loop during his lunch break. Things get worse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVooyfaPYD8 Disney puts some of their old classics on YouTube, and here's Steamboat Willie. Perhaps you've heard of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBgghnQF6E4 Rejected is an animated short comedy film by Don Hertzfeldt that was released in 2000. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film the following year at the 73rd Academy Awards, and received 27 awards from film festivals around the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7JyjZI3LUM Here's one that I very vaguely remembered from my childhood, and almost ended up thinking I'd imagined it, until one day I ran across it on Youtube. The old Canadian version of The Cat Came Back that apparently got played on Nickelodeon a lot when I was very young. It's got a weird sense of humor and I still love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJl_4IsQJ2g What are your favorite short films available to stream for free?

Red Giant is a company that makes visual effects plugins and tutorials, and every so often, they make short films to demonstrate the capabilities of their stuff. I don’t know the first thing about visual effects, but I think the films are quite good. I didn’t even know they were supposed to be demonstrating or advertising anything until after I had watched all of them. Here are my favorites. Tempo - Two scientists have created an incredible device capable of slowing down or speeding up objects. However, when their research lab is attacked and one is mortally injured, it’s up to the other to use the device and a bit of creativity to fight his way out. Well, in then out. https://youtu.be/55Kc1Nfx4tY Spy vs. Guy - A pizza delivery man accidentally and unknowingly comes into possession of a very dangerous object, and it’s up to the secret agent who lost it decades ago to covertly retrieve it from him. A very nice farce. https://youtu.be/umB_cdUGfsk Old/New - A man obsessed with being on the cutting edge discovers the joy of old things, but between old and new, can he find something that will make him truly happy? Narrated by Patton Oswalt. https://youtu.be/5hIOwi5Mv8E There also used to be a funny little one where a guy walks to his crush’s house to ask her out while failing to notice the increasingly overt signs of an alien invasion going on around him. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find it in the last few years.

DUST has a ton of sci-fi short films and miniserieses. Everything from stuff that looks like students' projects to really well-made videos with actual recognisable actors in them, so it can be a bit hit and miss, but there are some worth seeing in there. I watched this one recently that I thought was all right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtTNLhycOw8

The Last Angel Of History is a really cool and extremely 1996 mini-documentary about afrofuturism, drawing on music, history, science fiction and contemporary politics, featuring some pretty big names and great music. It's 45m long, so lengthier than some others recommended here, but it's really worth your time.

This film I'm pretty sure I got from here, it came up in a thread years ago and I watch it about once a year and cry every single time. Just the sweetest, saddest little film ever. A good way to spend 6 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPYvoAWzvVs

Act of God: Some Lightning Experiences, 1966-1980 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jEugz4_yvw A short documentary about lightning strike survivors by my favorite director. Greenaway: "I was asked by Thames, a rather reactionary TV station, to make a half-hour program on any subject whatsoever. In my interest in taxonomies and attempts to classify information, I looked for the most unclassifiable events or phenomena I could think of – which was being struck by lightning. We advertised in the national press for all those people who had been struck by lightning and survived, to come forward to be interviewed – and that’s what the film’s about. I had hoped to find extraordinary religious experiences, people who felt they’d been punished by God. Most of their reactions were totally banal, but we came across some extraordinary events – girls riding fat ponies down English country lanes and entirely disappearing apart from a pool of cooling fat on the road. I put all these events together and of course everybody thought I had made them up."
