Hey folks, having issues with my mates Mid 2011 Air. It won't update from 10.9.5 no matter what has been tried. I'm not much of a Apple person so out of my league You are my only hope goons! I'm pretty sure it's compatible with High Sierra so tried it as well as upgrading the Mavericks to Yosemite: https://apps.apple.com/au/app/macos-high-sierra/id1246284741?ls=1&mt=12 Mid 2011 Air: OSX 10.9.5 Enough Free Space We've tried standard install and safemode install with this same error code I've tried this following method too: code:

Basically, you need to make a bootable drive and install it fresh, you cannot do a straight upgrade within Mac OS... If you never upgraded that Mac above 10.9, then you must first upgrade to 10.11 before upgrading to 10.13. You cannot go from 10.9-->10.13 directly!! https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8320869 I did a look up of your Mac with the serial number from your screenshot on Everymac.com: quote:This system fully supports the last version of OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion," OS X 10.9 "Mavericks," and OS X 10.10 "Yosemite" as well as OS X 10.11 "El Capitan," but advanced feature support is limited to Mac-to-Mac AirDrop, AirPlay Mirroring, and Power Nap. Other major features are not supported. It is capable of running macOS Sierra (10.12) as well, although it does not support the Universal Clipboard, Auto Unlock, or Apple Pay features. Finally, this model is capable of running macOS High Sierra (10.13), and it supports HEVC (High-Efficiency Video Coding), but it does not support hardware accelerated HEVC. It is not compatible with macOS Mojave (10.14) or later versions of the operating system. Firstly, make a backup of your stuff and follow Apple's instructions: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208969 Download link for OSX 10.13.2 High Sierra (obviously the latest ver is 10.13.6, so you'll need the incremental update too)... https://updates.cdn-apple.com/2019/cert/041-90501-20191011-37f6fda1-2122-4396-9c64-4c2d2da9182e/macOSUpd10.13.2.dmg Here's a video and instructions on how to make a bootable USB key for High Sierra: https://9to5mac.com/2017/08/02/how-to-create-bootable-macos-high-sierra-usb-install-drive-video/ edit: Also in case you don't know how to boot from USB, here is this too for once you have a bootable USB installer: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/articles/usb-boot/ Slayerjerman fucked around with this message at 04:35 on Apr 7, 2020 |

Good luck, but I would tell your friend to seriously consider dumping that 9-year old computer for something modern, even if it's another (newer) overpriced MacBook... Considering Apple doesn't even support it anymore nor allows it to use the latest MacOS and it's already capped for it's upgrades...

I'll update for posterity if what I'm trying now works.

It’s a great excuse to coax him to get something modern. I typically advice customers to just put their money towards another machine than spend half of a new computer in repairs... even when it means I won’t make any money from them. He’ll appreciate your efforts, but your just wasting your time with it now...

Update! I booted another version of Sierra (not High Sierra). Then deleted the drive and did a clean install. 10.12.x installed successfully. Now to continue trying the rest of it all. Thanks for your help pointing me in the right direction Slayerjerman! EDIT: Now have it successfully to 10.13.6 Humphreys fucked around with this message at 11:40 on Apr 10, 2020 |
