As the title says my wife's new book The Vanishing Trick releases April 30th in the UK. I don't believe it has a USA release date though I know the rights have been sold in Russia. You can also order it from places like Waterstones. The cover artwork is done by Chris Mould who recently received praise for his work on the new Iron Man release. He's also a super nice guy that's been very helpful during this time. In any case it's a Victorian era horror/adventure story targeted for young adult readers about a traveling con woman doing seances but using real magic to fake ghosts. She steals/enslaves children to do her bidding while manipulating those around her and enacting her revenge on those she believes have wronged her. Jenni (my wife) has been working on the story for nearly seven years now though obviously it started more as a hobby then steadily working on it. She's also published four smaller books for Badger Presses which are designed for troubled readers done by a brief which I wouldn't really recommend as they aren't really displaying her talents. If goons are interested at all about what she went through in editing, changes to the story as it evolved, getting an agent, to publishing I'll answer what I can and pass anything else onto her. Or if you're thinking about buying it but want more information on the current story of course I'll answer that. My wife's website: http://jennispangler.com/ Book of the Week from the Sunday Times: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/childrens-book-of-the-week-the-vanishing-trick-by-jenni-spangler-k8zcbctdf (sorry about the paywall) There's also more book of the week type stuff we've been told it's going to win but I can't say anything more until they announce. If anyone is wondering why I'm doing this instead of her she's been swamped. Since the corona virus hit her publisher has been having her do promotional videos while having to take care of the kids (we're isolating separately so I can't even help with that). Edit: Now chosen as children's book of the month at waterstones https://www.waterstones.com/category/childrens-teenage/ages-9-12 Check the banner on top. Edit: Author Q&A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkYilIS3u2Q over 30 children's authors answer questions submitted by children. Darkhold fucked around with this message at 10:49 on May 1, 2020 |

Big congratulations to your wife! I wish her all the best success with this! I do not live in the UK, but I do work in a school library so perhaps I can use the budget to do a special order when we are back (in September it looks like...)

Thank you. It's been an interesting journey seeing it develop over the years. Her current contract is for two books. The second one is going to be about Joseph Faber and his Talking Machine though with magic thrown in. Obviously no release date on that she's shooting for early next year I believe. Oddly when writing The Vanishing Trick she pictured it more as a series but the publisher we went with decided for now to make it stand alone with a different story as a next novel.

Well it's launch day! There's some stuff on her twitter that'd be great if anyone wants to retweet: https://twitter.com/JenniSpangler1 Stuff that's going on: A contest for taking a victorian selfie (nearly over) A Q&A where they sent children's questions to over 30 children's writers and illustrators. Truly amazing they contacted over 20 directly and not only had a 100% reply rate but several others offered their time unprompted. These videos will be posted today. A contest with writing a horror story. Winner has been announced. If you are curious here's a link to Waterstones and a few five star reviews are trickling in. https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-vanishing-trick/jenni-spangler/chris-mould/9781471190377 amazon link again. She was up to #14 in new childrens releases for awhile but last I heard she'd dropped to 17 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vanishing-Trick-Jenni-Spangler/dp/1471190374/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1587734590&sr=8-1 A few of her reviews mention Neil Gaiman which has sent her over the moon with happiness. Obviously this thread is a little dead so I'll only update it if she wins some major awards or someone has a comment/question. Darkhold fucked around with this message at 12:28 on Apr 30, 2020 |

Congratulations to your wife! Perhaps it would be a good idea to post a blurb for the book? You've only written about two lines; a bit more detail might entice a few more readers.

Back of the book Blurb (I believe written by the publisher)quote:Leander is an orphan, making his way in the world on just his wits. So when he meets Madame Pinchbeck, a mysterious woman who promises to give him a job and a home in return for his mother’s precious locket, he leaps at the chance. quote:There was a crackle in the air like the moment before a lightening strike. The hairs on Leander's arm stood on end. From a tiny glass box on a shelf Charlotte began to appear, pouring out like liquid and becoming solid before his eyes. She wore the same scowl as she hopped down from the carriage. Had a huge mess with the twitter Q&A videos. She had some program that was supposed to post them at certain times but when they posted they had no sound. So now she's re-edited them into a single video and uploading to youtube with a crappy internet connection. I'll post a link when it finishes.
