hello as a frequenter of cspam i am privy to people making cool things like music and art and books and poo poo, cf https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3868217 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHrXLarmGH-RiI3M31L8cFA/videos and it got me to wondering why people make things. i ask you cspam idiots because a) if you are making cool things you should put pictures on the internet for strangers in this thread (or not, whatever), b) because i am a musician, but not a very good one most days, and i wonder if making creative stuff is a waste in the landscape of westernized exploitative capitalism and c) because i am literally sitting in a pile of blank canvases (canvasses?) and there are things i want to do with them, in an art-like way, but i find that my ideas and my technical abilities are really fuckin far apart, so my ideas come out poorly executed or not at all so i think maybe this thread has a couple different purposes a) share your cool things that you made because they are cool; bonus if they are political/radicalizing/social-historical commentating b) talk to me about why you make things, or why you think people make things in response to the world around them c) maybe give me some ideas on how to make stuff that doesn't wind up looking like pinterest poo poo or whatever ancillary fourth purpose, maybe ?) those of you that make cool stuff, if you're cool with it, please share your influences and/or cool media that has impacted you. this originally was just gonna be a thread about media that radicalizes people, but then i realized i'd just be talking about parasite, eric andre, la peste, gil-scott heron, and fuckin, like, hail to the thief sinnesloeschen has issued a correction as of 14:52 on May 19, 2020 |

I think this is a really good idea for a thread and CSPAMs should be proud of the poo poo they do. In addition to poasting I also make music of different varieties, a lot of my stuff lately has been for the kids at school, when the covid protocols hit I ended up recording a good chunk of the songs I write for our class online so they can still enjoy them, here are some examples that I put on my music projects youtube channel that I maintain to feel like the energy I expend on making music is going somewhere.     here are some songs I have done over the last few years that are not geared toward the classroom, the first one is from a band I was in a million years ago where I sang and played guitar, the last one, I think, is pretty good    I also like to do some real zone out kind of tunes like these     The last thing I tend to do is make down tempo remixes of pop songs    if you listened to any of this, thank you for your service Egg Moron has issued a correction as of 19:36 on May 19, 2020 |

also i had two ideas today one to do a series of paintings that are mostly black with local harvested flora painted white and either real far away or super close perspective wise also a weird music idea where i did this weird version of morrissey's "i know its gonna happen someday" pulled through a sample of the giygas music from earthbound  radicalizing media: that one episode of deep space nine where rom forms a union watch it it owns

recently i have found that the joy is in the doing rn im working on an album of lovely covers united by a dumb concept but its fun so im makin it i also made a dog food/water box thing and a set of alarm ringtones where david lynch tells you what day it is

i make stuff because it is really cool to take a thing from the realm of imagination that exists as electrical impulses in fatty head meat, and make it a Real Thing even if that thing is made of signals in a computer like the reification of thought holds a powerful pull also, if other people like it or say it is good or useful, it feels nice here is some stuff i made for an fb page that i should prolly take to twitter or something because fb is a lovely hellhole (as opposed to twitter which is just a regular lovely hole)

    i create for religious and communal reasons. i pulled each piece of glass out of the ocean and drilled them one at a time. one of these lei takes 40+ hours and ive never made a cent from them, all gifts of love.

totally depends on skill, the drill, and the type of glass. probably 1 in 50 now unless its pinky fingernail siz stuff it has to be drilled under water or the bit melts and you inhale deadly glass dusts
