Currently renting a home that my landlord remodelled just before I moved in a few years ago, part of the remodel involved altering the entrance to the kitchen. Pictured below are what appear to be some sort of structural part of the house pressing through the wall on the kitchen side, and the ceiling on the other side. I can't tell if the ceiling is bowing out or if it's just ugly as hell. Given the amount of corners that got cut during remodeling I'm worried that this is a major problem like a cut support beam or something, but money's tight so I can't pay to have an inspector or anything like that come out unless I've got a reasonable certainty of not throwing money away. Any info or observations y'all can provide would be greatly appreciated.
