I think every school system went through a Crips and Bloods phase where teachers were told to be on the lookout for gang colors, especially bandanas. My hometown had three stoplights. There were active snake-handling churches. But yeah, Crips and Bloods. e: heckuva snipe

It’s interesting to remember how PSAs reflected the cultural anxieties of the time. Does anyone remember watching the weird Strong Kids, Safe Kids video with the Penis Song and the Fonz warning you about stranger danger? In the 80s and 90s the focus always seemed to be abduction, instead of the far more likely possibility of being sexually abused by someone you know. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDd9Gjo2J2E

It made me honestly fear that bad people were lurking around the corner waiting to kidnap me. Nevermind I was with my family/other adults a good majority of the time because kids weren't allowed to roam free.
