I think the pickings are pretty slim for contenders, and as a double whammy the demand from the braying hogs that are the conservative base are trending pretty solidly away from wanting anything "intellectual". They've got Trump out there promising to go full fash and hurt all their enemies in the language of the hateful rear end in a top hat that they understand much more intuitively than listening to people like Kermit the Trog blather on about high-minded poo poo like the chaos dragon of femininity. Less and less of them want to listen to that when they can say immigrants are disease carrying animals that should be gunned down at the border and anyone not performatively masculine is secretly a pedophile looking to trans your kids and give them AIDS or what the gently caress ever gets them riled up.
