One time a guy stole some downhill skis out of my jeep and I was so mad I punched a mailbox. I'm against crime, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
I predicted Adam Cole would get fired due to twitch. I never imagined they’d let his contract expire and the twitch stream would be a contributing factor to him not re-signing though.

I was dead on with AEW getting Clash-type specials though.

Now bring on a Batista appearance and a 1.3 for Raw! :getin:

the brodie predictions are making me sad all over again

It's like goldy or bronzy, but made of iron.

All right, time for some ridiculous predictions. I'm trying out this new "post scheduler" extension that will let me choose when posts will appear on the board. Let's set this one to appear at 11:29 on today, the 31st of December 2020.

Kenny Omega's rematch with Moxley will be an exploding barbed wire exploding ring match. The resulting explosion will look so crappy that it will cause Atsushi Onita to relaunch FMW in order to redeem the good name of exploding rings

Miro will lose a tag match that involves one of his favourite arcade games getting smashed to pieces. This will anger him so much that he becomes the scariest man who has ever lived. Kip Sabian will be so scared of him that he starts wearing a box on his head

Not only will AEW and New Japan start working together, the Forbidden Door will be blown open to the point where IWGP titles change hands on AEW shows. Tomohiro Ishii will end up tagging with Orange Cassidy, who is now a member of CHAOS.

Despite being considered as a disappointment as the Joker in the AEW Revolution Casino Battle Royal, All Ego Ethan Page will become a mainstay of the promotion, will wrestle Sting at the next PPV and will gain the nickname "the tightest tits in the game"

Not only will Fuego Del Sol get signed, he will form a hugely popular tag team with his son, Fuego 2.

Jon Moxley will wrestle multiple times on New Japan Strong. He will also win the GCW title from Zack Ryder.

The Lucha Bros will lose the AAA tag titles to an unknown pair of luchadores called Los Super Ranas.

Chase Owens will beat Hiroshi Tanahashi and Taichi in singles matches.

NXT will be rebranded in primary colours with a focus on attracting a younger audience. The theme tune will include the lyrics "Pimpin' powder, and pussy tryna make pennies. See n*ggas lie on the stand, guess hell ain't harder than prison, who knows"

The biggest face on NXT will be Rick Steiner's son, who they never mention is Rick Steiner's son despite him looking and sounding like a combination of Rick and Scott Steiner. He will continue his father's feud with Chucky from the Child's Play movies.

By the end of 2021, three of the four people who held the NXT title in 2020 will be released.

The NXT champion will debut on RAW and get squashed by Jeff Hardy in less than two minutes.

WWE will build up a character for re-debut with a series of high production videos expanding his character's lore. He will to TV at the end of May, get released on June 2nd, and turn up on AEW 30 days later in a hot feud with Cody Rhodes.

WWE's only five star match of 2021 will be for the NXT-UK title. Despite everyone raving about the match, nobody will watch NXT-UK

The fall draft will bring nine NXT wrestlers up to either RAW or Smackdown. Within two months, five of them will be released.

After Retribution falls apart, WWE have big plans for Slapjack, as they promptly realise he's Australian, dress him as Crocodile Dundee, have him wrestle two dark matches, then release him before the gimmick makes TV

DDT will hold a match for the Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship in which a book gets a pinfall over another book.

There will be a quarter hour of TV in which Roman Reigns is on WWE programming and The Bunny is on AEW programming. The Bunny will win the ratings.

Jey Uso will eventually beat Roman Reigns, but not for the WWE Championship (Roman won't have it by then). That whole story never really went anywhere, the Usos are still together and Roman has been champion all year

The biggest victory Impact gets in its "feud" with AEW will be a non-title win over the TNT Championship holder with interference involved. Christian beat Omega for the Impact title, but naturally that happened on AEW's TV. The TNT champion never appeared in Impact

Think of the most excruciating and terrible Fiend segment this year. One that made you embarrassed for all the wrestlers involved and question why you're still watching. Something 20 times more embarrassing will be booked with The Fiend in 2021. Box-like structure

Bo Dallas returns to NXT and wins the NXT Title He's literally on a nice farm now

TUE, Gargano, and Ciampa will all still be on NXT by the end of 2021. Well, you're about half right

Fox announcers will get so disgusted with promoting Smackdown (and its failing ratings) that by the 2021 NFL Season, Joe Buck is just making fart noises on air while the contractually obligated promos air. Buck clearly hates doing those ad reads

The Forbidden Portal opens, but in 2021 it involves more AEW talent on excursion rather than NJPW talent on AEW TV. Travel restrictions still make this hard, but a handful of AEW guys have worked Strong. NJPW guys have consistently appeared on AEW TV.

There will not be more than one woman's match on any single episode of Dynamite or whatever the new show is called. Dynamite and Rampage have had multiple shows with two women's matches
No worker currently listed as being part of the Raw or Smackdown brands will appear in AEW this year. Uh, wanna start counting?
The Young Bucks will drop the Tag Team titles to Best Friends. Bucks dropped the belts to Lucha Bros

- A NJPW talent will show up in AEW. Maybe even at the first PPV with fans allowed back? KENTA, Suzuki, Kojima, Nagata, and Ishii all made TV appearances
- And an AEW talent will be at Wrestle Kingdom. Japan still wasn't allowing foreign travel at the time
- Edge will re-retire before the year is done. He's still around, apparently
- JR won't be on commentary by the end of 2021 or at the very least, they'll reserve him for PPVs or special matches. Get well soon, Jim
- "Speedball" Mike Bailey will either be in AEW or killing it on the US indies. Bailey just signed with Impact
- Someone from the WWE women's division will make a big splash in AEW. Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby Soho
- One main event/upper midcard name will leave WWE to AEW. Maybe Aleister? Bingo
- NXT stays on Wednesdays, but talks about moving it either back to the Network or another day are extremely common by the end of the year. Humiliation for Loser Hunter
- Whatever AEW's second show is will hit a strong enough debut rating to start said conversations about moving NXT. Rampage did well over a million with Punk's return
- Kenny Omega, Adam Page, and MJF will be the AEW World Champs of 2021 with Moxley angling for the belt heading into 2022. Yes on Omega and Page. MJF might get there in 2022. Who knows with Moxley at this point.
- Bucks will drop their tag titles at Double or Nothing. To make it extra spicy, they may lose to a team that isn't AEW exclusive like the Good Brothers or something wacky. Bucks dropped the belts to Lucha Bros at All Out
- Britt will be AEW Women's Champion and might drop it to Kris or a returning Riho before the year's done. Britt won the title at Double or Nothing and has held it the rest of the year
- TNT Championship is a bit harder to predict, but I'll say at least 3 or 4 champions in 2021. Darby, Miro, and Sammy
- The AEW trios belts are made and all the matches rule, probably will get a sick tournament out of it too. We got a second women's belt instead. The TBS tournament has been pretty good so far.
- Probably gonna get AEW's version of WarGames finally. Cody will probably (definitely) be in it. We finally got Blood and Guts in the spring, but Cody wasn't in it

Probably gonna come back before the year is done and edit in some more.

STOP DOING HEROIN
Let's do a few more of these before turning the page on 2021

Lamuella posted:

- The Dark Order will schism, with a heel side led by Brodie Lee and a babyface side centred on Reynolds and Silver Unfortunately we'll never know how the Page/Brodie story would've played out. Page is still allied with the Dark Order.

- AEW will introduce six man tag titles in a sixteen team tournament Still waiting!

- if international travel becomes possible again, New Japan will do a show at Madison Square Garden that sells out. AEW will do international shows in the UK and one or more other countries. At least one contracted AEW wrestler who hasn't yet wrestled for New Japan will do so. New Japan proper hasn't come back, but Strong really came into its own as a successful US spinoff, with several AEW talents working their shows. As for AEW running international, Tony really wants to do a London show and you gotta imagine that's coming sooner than later.

- Toa Henare will compete for a singles title. Henare turned heel and joined United Empire, now working as Aaron Henare. He's mostly the pin eater for that unit and hasn't been in any title matches.

- by the end of the year an episode of AEW Dynamite will have had a higher 18-49 rating than that week's RAW. Yup

- if international travel becomes possible, one or more TJPW contracted star who hasn't yet competed in AEW will do so. I'm not quite brave enough to predict Miyu Yamashita. Aside from Riho I don't think AEW has used any TJPW talent since the tournament

- The Collective will run a series of shows but they will be focused on All Out weekend rather than Wrestlemania weekend. A few indies ran All Out weekend but it doesn't seem to be a "thing" on the level of Mania weekend yet.

A Fancy Hat posted:

AEW will have at least one episode that beats Monday Night Raw in total ratings, leading to absolute chaos in WWE world and insane publicity stunts like celebrity guest hosts coming back, multiple title changes on free TV, and stuff like cage matches and inferno matches happening on Raw Dynamite has won 18-49 a couple of times but not in the total viewership yet. WWE responded by just firing more people.

WWE will lose one extremely high profile star (I'm talking on the level of AJ Styles or Asuka or New Day) to AEW, leading to a lot of people saying "Woah, I forgot that person was actually really entertaining!" Bryan Danielson is by far the biggest defection yet

We'll get crowds back in some form in the fall, and there will be a stark contrast between how easily AEW can fill an area versus how challenging it becomes for WWE Most promotions were back to full crowds by the summer, and AEW is eating WWE's lunch in the New York market.

-Hangman beats Brodie at All Out to split from the Dark Order and begin his march to the title. He'll end the year as #1 contender, beat Kenny at Revolution 2022 For obvious reasons plans changed, and Hangman started his title chase in the summer. He finally beat Omega at Full Gear.

-Jake Hager will be the one to jump back to WWE WWE has more or less closed its doors on bringing in veteran talent

-Karrion Kross will be the year's shiny new toy from NXT called to the main roster. He'll speedrun Miro's booking and Scarlett will be with Bobby Lashley within 6 months of the callup Kross didn't even make it 3 months on the main roster before getting released. Scarlett never made a TV appearance.

-Retribution will somehow still be around and will also still not have had a ppv match They got broken up offscreen and 2 of the 4 members have since been released

Sami Zayn will not be wrestling for WWE by the end of the year but won't appear on AEW until 2022 because of some bullshit contract dispute with WWE like Rey Mysterio and PAC. Zayn is still on TV, still being booked like an absolute geek

John Cena will not have a proper wrestling match in 2021 but won't officially retire from WWE. Cena wrestled Roman at SummerSlam and also worked a house show tour

WWE 2K22 will have CM Punk as the pre-order bonus character ala Ultimate Warrior. Punk will wrestle a match or two for WWE but won't significantly boost the ratings. Something tells me this won't be happening any time soon

-Blood & Guts happens, and it's Team AEW vs. Team Impact Wrestling (featuring Kenny Omega, who is the one submitted). Blood and Guts was the Inner Circle vs. the Pinnacle
-A CyberFight merger happens between Noah and DDT, but not TJPW. The CF promotions are still separate entities, though they do run joint shows from time to time

Kenny Omega will retain the AEW World Championship on all AEW PPVs. Almost made it before he lost to Hangman at Full Gear

Darby Allin will get a match for the world title on a PPV. Darby was busy being TNT champion and feuding with Ethan Page

Sting will captain a team for Blood & Guts, even if it's just in a managerial role. Sting was not involved in Blood and Guts

AEW will run a PPV out of TIAA Bank Field (drat you MRT!!! you scooped my big prediction for the year!!!) This might still happen one day

The AEW Console Video Game will have a metacritic score of at least 91. The game's release date is extremely TBD

Wrestlemania will be only one night and will go on for too long. There will be fans with paid tickets. Mania was two nights with limited crowds

WWE will in fact run two shows in Saudi Arabia again. The second one will have some controversy occur that the wrestlers once again won't act on. They ran one show that mostly went off without incident

The first two-time champion in AEW will be....The Young Bucks. They were champs for most of the year and just dropped it to Lucha Bros

The forbidden door will remain officially unopened, but relations will warm significantly. KENTA kicked down the door for good

G1 Climax will be in the fall again. There will be three matches rated 5 stars or higher. The G1 got more mixed reviews than usual this year. Only one match, Shingo vs. Ishii, got 5+ from Dave.

ROH, GCW, Billy's NWA, and IMPACT! will survive the year. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla will not run shows until September when they return for the biggest BOLA yet. ROH didn't last the year, but the others did

BOLA will feature the first wrestling card to feature both an AEW contracted wrestler and a WWE contracted wrestler on it. We didn't get a BOLA this year, but they just announced one for January and time will tell what talent shows up

EVIL will win the IWGP HW championship again. Thankfully no

Kurt Angle will appear on an episode of Dynamite. Kurt has mostly stayed out of the public eye since leaving WWE

There will be an angle between an as of today contracted NFL player and Chris Jericho that occurs in AEW. Not the NFL, but we did get a sports crossover with Shaq feuding with Cody

Cody will beat SHAQ. The match will surprise many people and get at least 3.5 stars from Meltz. Shaq's team won when Jade pinned Velvet. The match loving ruled.

NXT Japan will be announced but not launched. Keiji Mutoh will be the face of it. Much like Brie Bella, NXT Japan died in the womb

The 2021 Bryan & Vinny & Friends Christmas Show will be the most debaucherous one yet. Guess we'll find out soon

AEW:

Trying a mix of likely things, unlikely things, and extremely unlikely things:

- AEW Dynamite regularly hits over 1 million viewers, and exceeds 1.2 million several times. More or less
- Raw loses its third hour (I will keep predicting this till is happens, please Jesus make it happen ). Bad news
- Vince panics and brings Undertaker back to wrestle on a non-Wrestlemania PPV. Taker seems pretty set on finally staying retired this time
- Wrestlemania still takes place in a 50,000+ seat stadium, but with only 15k tickets for sale. They drew around 20k for both nights
- On at least one week, at least one hour of Raw will get a sub one million rating. Maybe next year
- NXT starts hitting sub 500k total viewers regularly. They've settled in at around 500-550k since rebranding
- Kota Ibushi defeats Naito on Night 1 of Wrestle Kingdom to win the IWGP Championship, and successfully defends it against Switchblade Jay White on Night 2. Nailed it
- Jon Moxley will defend the IWGP US Title both in the United States and Japan respectively, winning the first but losing the second. Moxley never made it back to Japan. He defended the title against KENTA, Nagata, and Karl Anderson before dropping it to Lance Archer on Dynamite.
- There will be 5 distinct NXT Champions in 2021, only 2 of them will ever defend their title (either successfully or unsuccessfully), the other three will be vacated due to injury. There were four NXT champions -- Finn Balor, Karrion Kross, Samoa Joe, and Tomasso Ciampa. Joe vacated the belt to either an injury or forced retirement or whatever the gently caress.
- Kenny Omega will hold the AEW Championship for 9 months, then lose the title to Hangman Adam Page. 11 months, but close enough
- Hangman Adam Page will NOT be the AEW Champion at the end of 2021. Egg on your face!
- Taichi will lead an insurrection against Minoru Suzuki for leadership of Suzuki-Gun, and succeed thanks to the support of his best friend Zack Sabre Jr. They still haven't done anything with this story despite teasing it for years on end.

-Hiroshi Tanahashi will win the New Japan Cup Will Ospreay won it. Tana was NEVER champion and thus not in the tournament.
-Best of the Super Juniors winner will be Sho SHO is currently first place in the standings so maybe?
-New Japan will try to run a full attendance Tokyo Dome before the Olympics if vaccination is full effect/Covid is under control Welp, COVID still not under control
-The G1 winner will be Okada Yup

-NOAH/DDT/TJPW will run the Tokyo Dome, either at full or Reduced capacity in Fall after the Olympics DDT ran an empty-arena Dome show with TJPW wrestlers featured
-The Smaller groups in Japan will try to run joint shows/merge to counter reduced capacity/lower ticket sales. Sadly it won't help as we'll see some big name feds go out of business Somehow almost all of the promotions held on, and we even saw a new promotion in GLEAT trying to make an impact.
- Winter will see a big charity multi promotion show at the Budokan if Covid is under control with New Japan/NOAH/Dragon Gate/DDT/Stardom etc. But absent from the show will be All Japan because...The NJPW/NOAH show is donating proceeds to the Red Cross, so I guess that counts
-All Japan ends up in a extreme cash crunch and ends up needing to either sell the company or go out of business. They end up spurning an offer from Cyber Agent and instead sell a percentage to WWE secretly to becom NXT Japan while still having the All Japan name. This leads to some top talent leaving the company Nothing has really changed for AJPW, even if they're basically a glorified indie now
- Kento Miyahara thus joins New Japan and ends up challenging and winning the Double Gold. He will face Okada at the dome with the angle build being that he's a better ace I'm sure Okada vs. Kiyomiya will be cool too

-Kenny Omega will end up holding the AEW, AAA, NWA, Impact, DDT Iron Man, DDT KO-D and IWGP US title at the same time in 2021 Omega held the AEW, AAA, and Impact titles, but ultimately the Belt Collector run didn't amount to much. He lost the Impact title to Christian, the AEW title to Page, and then vacated the AAA title with a million injuries.
- AEW will run a tag team tournament involving teams from other companies. The Good Brothers will win it and end up facing the Young Bucks for the Titles They had a No. 1 contender's tournament, but didn't feature any outside teams. The Good Brothers' last AEW match was in September.
- Young Bucks will hold till fall where Top flight will end up beating them and winning the titles Top Flight didn't last long before Darius Martin got injured, but Dante Martin got himself over and is on TV almost every week. Good for him.
- Hangman Page will beat Kenny For the title Yup
- Kenny will end up facing Kota Ibushi at the Tokyo dome in 2022 Wrestle Kingdom This was never going to happen even before Kenny took time off

It's funny because All Japan are actually in as good shape financially as they've been in a while because someone involved in the ownership is involved in a film company that had a surprise hit & thus are flush.

Also cannot believe Zero1 still exists, even if it's purely for sold shows. At this point their roster is Tanaka, Otani, Chris Vice, Hartley Jackson, & 4 other dudes. Plus somehow a trainee woman for reasons I guess? NATSUMI seems good anyway

Pretty sure my predictions for the rest of history will include "and finally Naoya Nomura will return to All Japan from his injury" because I refuse to accept the inevitable

Will I make it? Let's see!

Venomous posted:

By this time next year, the following will be the champions and tournament winners of these major companies:

WWE:

WWE Champion: AJ Styles

Well, we're already off to a bad start. AJ Styles has been relegated to the tag division all year, as he tries his damnedest to get Omos over. Is he doing it? Idk, I don't watch the show. Anyway, I'm happy for Big E.

Venomous posted:

Universal Champion: John Cena

This could have happened at Summerslam. I mean, obviously, no it couldn't, because Cena is still in Hollywood and he was never going to be around after Summerslam, but hell, he could have had a Lesnar run. Goodness knows, we'd be seeing Big E in the main event too. Anyway, Roman is still champ, which is whatever. He could do better outside the Fed, but he won't, because he won't be paid as well lmao.

Venomous posted:

Intercontinental Champion: Matt Riddle

Ah, good, Nakamura's the champ. gently caress Matt Riddle, the rapist piece of poo poo.

Venomous posted:

Raw Tag Team Champions: Dolph Ziggler and uhhh Seth Rollins, gently caress it

Huh, apparently Ziggler was a tag champ this year with Bobby Roode. Could've been right, I guess. Anyway, unfortunately for us, Matt Riddle is still a champ, alongside a similarly lovely person known as Randy Orton.

Venomous posted:

Smackdown Tag Team Champions: The Undisputed Era

I have nothing to say about this tbh. I am just glad that Cole and Fish are all together in AEW, and I hope KOR will join them soon enough.

Venomous posted:

Raw Women's Champion: Lacey Evans

Women's Tag Team Champions: idfk, Charlotte and Becky

The last I heard about the Women's Tag Champs is that the number one contenders had their title match cancelled, and then it wasn't rescheduled, and the drat thing is still in limbo.

Anyway, who are the champs right now? uhhh Carmella and Zelina? Huh, maybe I was wrong, and they did get their match. As I said, I don't keep up with the drat show.

Venomous posted:

NXT Champion: Velveteen Dream lmao

Thank the loving Lord.

Venomous posted:

NXT NA Champion: Leon Ruff

I have heard literally nothing about Leon Ruff since he was released this year, which is a shame, because the guy seemed pretty cool and he should have had a proper title reign.

Venomous posted:

NXT Tag Team Champions: Timothy Thatcher and Santos Escobar

idk what was going through my head when I guessed this tbh. Anyway, both of them are pretty cool, but iirc Thatcher's off TV now for whatever reason? He should really be released and sent to AEW, but that's most good wrestlers in the Fed lmao.

Venomous posted:

NXT Women's Champion: Kacy Catanzaro

Either way, I didn't expect them to actually merge the titles, which is one of the stupidest things NJPW has done in ages. That said, Ospreay is proclaiming himself the real world champion, so it's functionally equivalent to an IC title reign. I dunno, I guess I'll award this a 0.5.

You know what, I'm going to say that neither this nor the following three predictions count, because hell, I had other predictions after the main ones last year and they sure as hell didn't count.

Venomous posted:

Well, let's check Raw's ratings as of this week! https://twitter.com/BrandonThurston/status/1470862990157266945.

That seems kinda stagnant to me, and I don't think it actually resurged as such this year. It had a couple of peaks, sure, but iirc they've been hitting record low after record low. If they had gone full fash with the product, would they be resurging? Almost certainly, yes. Will they? No.

Venomous posted:

-King of the Ring will not happen

Wrong lmao. At least Xavier finally achieved his dream, but of course he had to be embarrassed by Roman Reigns afterwards.

Venomous posted:

-AJPW will become so much better while Tajiri has the book ahahahaha no it won't :(

The other week some dirtsheet, can't remember which, published an article which claimed that a significant portion of the AJPW locker room is really not happy with Tajiri's booking. Frankly, I don't know what that says about the product - I haven't really been following it this year - but it doesn't sound like the company's overall morale is any better. Regardless, if someone can tell me if AJPW is overall better this year than last year, I'd appreciate that.

So okay! Counting up the points and half points, that gives me uhhhh 9.5 out of 64. Considering I was half right for one of them last year, I should have had 4.5 out of 57, which is 7.9%, so I actually had 92.1% of them wrong lmao, and instead of decreasing my correct prediction rate, I have shamefully got 14.8% of them correct this year (and thus 85.2% wrong lmao), so I guess if you're into rounding that's 92% and 85% incorrect. Anyway, 15% correct is horrible, but unfortunately it's not as comedically horrible as either last year's predictions or my aspiring rate of 99% wrong predictions.

So that's 2021 over and done with! Will 2022 be any different? Let's wait and see.

Monday Night Raw will not go below a 1.3 overall: Did it?
Dynamite will not go above a 1.1 overall: It did like...twice?
The AEW World Title will change hands once; from Kenny to Page: Layup
Cody will continue to be a face who is constantly teasing at being a heel so he can keep using his tweener entrance ramp though the entire year: basically
The TNT title will change hands no fewer than 5 times. Only...twice? Wow.
There will not be more than one woman's match on any single episode of Dynamite or whatever the new show is called: It happened a few times and one of the matches was usually a squash.
No worker currently listed as being part of the Raw or Smackdown brands will appear in AEW this year: 3(?) did. Andrade, Brian and Malachai yes? The others were retired/nXt. Were Paul Wight or Mark Henry listed on a roster?
The Young Bucks will drop the Tag Team titles to Best Friends: Didn't realize Trent would spend most of the year injured
A prominent AEW wrestler will be 'spoken out' against but will not be punished for it: It's not technically accurate but Jay Lethal.
NXT will not budge from it's Wednesday night slot even as ratings dwindle: Hahahaha!

It was Voices of Wrestling and the consensus is their source is Yoshitatsu & I get why he'd be upset like Okada & Iwamoto because he has been downcycled HARD & it's loving great. He's no longer Kento's default Tag partner, Yuma is such a dramatic upgrade.

I think that 2021 was a better year from All Japan. They finally elevated Lee, it was too late but the heel turn was good. Hasn't been a stellar reign but it's something new & AJPW desperately needed that.

Nomura going is heart breaking. But Yuma Aoyagi is firmly establishing him in that position & that rules, his Tag stuff with Kento has been great. Despite loving around with Iwamoto the Juniors is in a pretty decent position with SUGI & STRONGHEARTS around, Runaway SUPLEX rules, even the loving GAORA TV Title had a resurgence between Jun Kasai & Shuji Ishikawa's reigns.

It's not the best promotion in the world but they had a fun year.

Mind you, I've just seen the results of today's AJPW show & uhhhhhhhh tempted to delete all this & just replace it with a fart sound.

I'm tallying up points from 2021 and will post the winners soon-ish!

In the meantime though let's laugh at my bad predictions

quote:

NJPW
- Hiromu Takahashi will enter both the NJC and the G1. He will win the former tournament no, no and also no
- SHO will also move on from the Junior division by entering NJC and G1 no and no, but he did wrestle Young Lions in G1 openers
- Minoru Suzuki will not be the leader of Suzuki-Gun at the end of the year, but he will not leave NJPW or retire just yet incorrect but it should be interesting to see where his current tour of the world takes him
- there will be another NJPW collaboration in the next Yakuza game the next Yakuza game was confirmed but is light on details as of now
- NJPW will once again start the G1 in the USA incorrect
- Ren Narita will officially return from excursion (at that G1 show???) no
- Gabriel Kidd will also shed his Jr status by joining Suzuki-Gun he did in fact become a real boy but did not join Suzuki-Gun! 1/2!

Gatoh Move
- when crowds are again permitted in Ichigaya, Gatoh Move will keep doing a weekly ChocoPro show without an audience while also having shows with audiences. no audiences at Gatoh Move shows yet
- a Gatoh Move talent will debut in AEW in 2021, damnit hell yeah

NOAH
- I still don’t know too much about NOAH but I feel like next year could be a big one for them after this year’s success, so I think they will do a big show that will draw either over 5000 (if restrictions continue to be in place) or close to 10000 people (if restrictions are lifted). I have no idea if this is at all feasible  the Cyberfight Festival had 4800 people in, so almost. I'm giving myself half a point for this one

AEW
- Hangman Page will challenge for Omega’s title more than once during the year but at the end of the year Omega will still be champion lol, wrong

WWE
- nothing actually important will change and WWE will keep on chugging exactly the way it has in 2020 I would say the death of Paul Triple H and NXT2.0 are "actually important" changes. Incorrect
- there will be a main-roster WWE PPV in the US that will get no more than 8 pages of posts in the livethread (I had 10 here but this year the second Saudi show only got 8 but the one on US soil with the least posts was Payback with 11, hence the ”in the US” addition) incorrect, HIAC was the WWE main-roster PPV with the least amount of pages at 10. Extreme Rules, Elimination Chamber and WM Backlash all got 11. Crown Jewel only got 6 pages. lol

Oh right FCF
- Shemeikka will win the FCF title at the next show with a title defence incorrect
- FCF will hold a series of no less than three open-air show in the summer there was only one
- Raivo Romppainen will keep having a poo poo-rear end name and gimmick all year long, much to my annoyance correct, unfortunately

If I take every detail as its own separate prediction (which is what I do with everyone's predictions), I got a whopping 3.5/24 points :)

edit: I had A PESSIMIST'S DREAM award here but it was incorrect because I'm dumb lol

We have a new special award to give out this year. Holla if you hear forums poster Guillermus who gets the 141 2/3 OUT OF 100 award!

Guillermus posted:

You know they say that all shows are created equal, but you look at AEW and you look at WWE and you can see that statement is not true. See, normally if you go one on one with another show, you got a 50/50 chance of winning the ratings. But AEW is a dynamic show and is not normal! So you got a 25%, AT BEST, at beat AEW. Then you add Impact! to the mix, WWE's chances of winning drastic go down. See the 3 way at 2021, WWE got a 33 1/3 chance of winning, but AEW got a 66 and 2/3 chance of winning, because Impact! KNOWS it can't beat AEW and is not even gonna try!
So WWE, you take your 33 1/3 chance, minus AEW 25% chance and WWE got an 8 1/3 chance of winning at 2021. But then you take AEW 75% chance of winning, if WWE was to go one on one, and then add 66 2/3 per cents, AEW got 141 2/3 chance of winning at 2021. See WWE, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at 2021.

It's time for the main event: the awards for the best percentage correct and most impressively correct predictions...

This year the "best percentage correct" award is named A WINNER IS YOU. Last year's winner Wazzu, who did not participate this year, has been dethroned by....... A Fancy Hat!

A Fancy Hat posted:

AEW will have at least one episode that beats Monday Night Raw in total ratings, leading to absolute chaos in WWE world and insane publicity stunts like celebrity guest hosts coming back, multiple title changes on free TV, and stuff like cage matches and inferno matches happening on Raw

WWE will lose one extremely high profile star (I'm talking on the level of AJ Styles or Asuka or New Day) to AEW, leading to a lot of people saying "Woah, I forgot that person was actually really entertaining!"

We'll get crowds back in some form in the fall, and there will be a stark contrast between how easily AEW can fill an area versus how challenging it becomes for WWE

A Fancy Hat managed to get 4/6 individual items or 66.67% correct! AEW did not beat RAW at any point (right?) and WWE didn't do insane publicity poo poo, but WWE DID lose Daniel Bryan (1 point) who has made people remember why he's amongst the best wrestlers of all time (1 point), and also we did get crowds back in the fall (1 point) and AEW has indeed been whipping WWE's rear end when it comes to attendance (1 point). Congratulations, A Fancy Hat!

And finally, previous champion Huntman did decently this time as well but someone else made some extremely clairvoyant predictions. I don't watch this promotion so maybe their predictions were obvious but to me it felt like IceAgeComing's guesses regarding STARDOM were so spot on that I shall give them the STAR MAN award for most impressively correct predictions!

IceAgeComing posted:

You forgot the prestigious KOPW Title; you surely need to include that. Also the Global Junior League was in January last year so I might reconsider that Ridgeway prediction to cover that.

After last year where out of five predictions I got one half right (predicted Sumo Hall for the Stardom 10th Anniversary show and they are running Budokan Hall so I'm claiming half a point for it) dunno if I should do this again but hey, why not.

1. Stardom's anniversary show isn't a total disaster - COVID limits carry on and reduce the amount that would have normally gone but they manage to put a reasonable number (2k+ I'd guess for them) and sell all of the comically expensive $1,000 seats. The uncertainty of COVID causes them to downsize the scale of their plans though - they keep running bigger buildings but its more because they can sell more tickets at 50% capacity there rather than a sign of massive ambition.

2. Yoshiko, Act Yasukawa and Kairi Hojo wrestle in some capacity on Stardom's 10th Anniversary show: either in the Battle Royal or in the case of Kairi or Yoshiko in a special singles match against Mayu Iwatani. However; that is the only time any of them appear on a Stardom show.

3. Suzu Suzuki retains the ICExInfinity title against Saori Anou on New Years Eve; and loses it to Tsukasa Fujimoto at some point in the early part of 2020; who then loses it to Tsukushi Haruka at some point before the end of the year (possibly at Yokohama?)

4. New Japan Pro Wrestling do not hold a major show (defined as a show featuring a large number of Japanese wrestlers with a main event of the standard of a named major New Japan show: not necessarily an IWGP Title match though) outside Japan in 2021; however they announce a return to MSG for early 2022.

5. The complications of COVID prevents NXT Japan from launching in 2021 however by the end of the year it becomes clearer who exactly is involved in it. They don't manage to sign any of the big stars from the major Japanese promotions outside of the one that they acquire to be the base of it and so start out by being reliant on their existing group of Japanese signed talent. Not going to predict the Japanese promotions they 'work with' since who the gently caress knows at this point.

6. British promotions come back in the middle of the year after the vaccination programme enables things to open back up with American fans of them being excited for the return expecting business as usual while British fans remain almost entirely disinterested. This is increasingly the case when promotions either come back with shows full of very green rookies without major stars or attempt to rehabilitate some of the people called out by the Speaking Out movement in front of not very large crowds: and this leads to several well-known British promotions going bust by the end of the year.

- Stardom's anniversary show in March (there seems to have been another in October? I have no idea) drew over 3k people! I don't know about the expensive seats so whatever. Also didn't bother looking up the bigger venues bit.
- Yoshiko did wrestle Mayu Iwatani at that show. That was Yoshiko's only appearance in Stardom in 2021. Act Yasukawa and Kairi Hojo did not appear in Stardom.
- Suzu Suzuki retained the title, lost it to Fujimoto in January who in turn lost it to Tsukushi Haruka in November.
- NJPW did not hold a major show in the US but nothing was announced for next year
- NXT did not launch in 2021, probably in part due to COVID? In fact, it's probably not happening at all, so the rest of it doesn't apply
- I have zero idea about the British stuff and didn't feel like researching it. It does seem some stuff has been happening over there but no one's talking about it, so that stuff is partly correct I guess. I don't think too many promotions have gone down either?

Congratulations, IceAgeComing!

And one more time for clarity:

STAR MAN (most impressively correct predictions): IceAgeComing
