thread necromancy! so, the manga started on kumoko's deranged training for sophia. it's, uh, kind of disturbing when you can see the baby. the text versions mostly just kind of skimmed over the whole baby abuse aspect.

Kinda reminded me of Piccolo training Gohan. It's interesting because its Wakabe just entering into Gamer Mode and seeing "Hey here's my party member who I can make OP if I do everything optimally starting... right... Now!" without actually stopping to think about how painful and traumatic it is to put Sophia through that kind of wringer as she would a character in a video game.

Although its also because to Wakabe's perspective, she's already gone through that kind of training so its no big deal to her so it shouldn't be a big deal to anyone else right.

The worst part is that there's quantifiable results so there's not as much gray area for them to argue about abuse. The hype spartan lifestyle and training works by the numbers, but it's it truly worth it?

Well, we all know how Sophia turns out, so... actually that doesn't really answer the question.

Well it makes sense that she outclasses Shun from the get go give that she starts off as an extremely broken species/race.

IIRC she's a "True Ancestor"/"Progenitor" type of vampire; aka kinda like how in Tsuikihime you have the much more powerful vampires and then the Dead Apostle copycat vampires which some anime kinda copies/references; I don't think she's the first one or first one in a while, in the manga when Wakabe first scans her she iirc infers one side of her family (the mother?) has vampire lineage.

We already know it's not from her parents because her father, John Keren, shows up a bit later in the manga (chapter 49.1) and is noted to be human. Kumoko comments that Sophia got some weirdo mutation to end up as a Vampire. (The same observation is likewise made when he appears in LN5 Chapter 2).

It hammers home just how lovely Kumoko was when she started out as a spider monster that her initial stats were generally below 10.
