I was assigned to read the book in grade 5, a couple of years after I watched the film adaptation, and I enjoyed both. A movie that goes from live action film to animated by Chuck Jones, involving words and numbers in an animated fashion was pretty trippy for me as a kid.

I told my teacher I had a VHS copy of the movie, but she only showed the first half of the movie because that's all we had time for, and it upset me a lot as an 11-year-old.

I remember reading it in school and I got a kick out of the surrealist nature. My Dad has a boiling hatred for all things surreal and therefore hated the book. It developed a soft spot in my heart as a result.
