My General View: BFC is full of professional adults and doesn't need me probating the poo poo out of people (except Zaurg, gently caress Zaurg). Slapfights will happen, they'll get told to knock it off, and then probes will get handed out if the 'off' does not get knocked as requested.

Related Details: I get around 2-4 reports per week, usually. They are mostly about slapfights or perceived slights from abrasive posters. I verbally intervene in the former and ignore the latter in most cases. I mostly stay out of moderating the Stocks thread because I'm not an appropriate arbiter for it.

Input Requested:
#1 - Does the broader BFC community agree with this moderation approach?
#2a - Does the Stocks thread need an IK?
#2b - If so, who do you recommend? (PM me if you aren't comfortable name-dropping in this thread.)

Thanks. Please feel assured that HR will keep all of your feedback anonymous and there will be absolutely no retrib-ahahahahahaha. (But seriously, I welcome the feedback here; I wouldn't ask if I didn't want to know.)

I think the stocks thread is generally pretty good at self-regulating, but if you give it an IK, please make it someone who regularly posted there before all the Gamestop hype of 2021.

I'd nominate someone like greasyhands, agronox, baddog, inner light, pixaal, leper, freelance socialist, velocibacon, java, etc. that's just from glancing at names at in old 2020 market prediction post https://i.imgur.com/GwZRwNE.png ). not sure if any of them would want the job.

Love the mod approach here. Rarely an issue.

For the stocks thread an IK isn’t a bad idea until the GME madness is over. Anytime GME has a large movement the thread devolves into poo poo for a few days until those people go away.

Any of the posters listed above (or frankly pmchem themselves) would be great thread IKs.

the stocks thread gets annoying sometimes but making someone an IK would i think just make it worse because a lot of people in there think they're more savvy than everyone else

Yeah, if it ain't broke don't fix it. It seems most of the issues in another fast moving bfc thread have been caused by its poor confused IK. Stock thread doesn't have a problem in need of solving IMHO

The stock thread is in an unusual place because the market itself is frothy and weird and there are a lot of newbs coming in. But it doesn't seem too bad. Over the years the biggest problems were politics derails (which will probably be reduced until 2023) and the occasional slapfight when people get too mentally invested in their positions. Most people are decent though. Even when I've been on the opposite side of a trade from people (I'm short something they're long or whatever) we've usually been able to discuss it calmly.

Bottom line, I don't think it's worth adding an IK unless you're getting overwhelmed by it.

The thread could definitely use a refreshed OP though. Once my work schedule dies down I might take a stab at an update unless someone else gets there first.

BTW, and nobody answer this if it's a drama thing, but is old mod Moneyball okay? Did he just disappear?

The one thing the stocks thread really needs is a new and up-to-date op to help bring those new to investing up to speed. Especially since we have an influx of dudes whose first foray into the stock market is GME YOLO.

I used to, but stopped years ago because they're always really out of date now.

If the title mentioned that the OP has been updated and the date it was updated, it might help.

Thanks for the feedback. That's a lot of "don't break what ain't broke," so I'll leave it alone re: stocks thread.

If you guys are good with things in general right now, I'm happy to hear it. Unstickying the thread, and you may all return to mocking me behind my back buying GME and overpriced houses.

I've changed my mind, the stock thread has went downhill

maybe we need a "securities, futures and options thread" and a wallstreetbets stonks thread
