COWABUNGA DUDES!
🥷🐢😬

I think it's fair to say that despite the absolute plethora of dredge that is naturally on any 'user generated content' site *looks around*, YouTube has genuinely become a home to some excellent stuff that simply wouldn't exist on a traditional TV, or even paid streaming platform.

So dig through your subscriptions to bring up channels that are consistently worth checking out. Here's some admittedly 'easy' choices to start things off!

JCS - Criminal Psychology

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfg861hO-Ag

JCS does a pretty simple thing, and does it well. He presents publicly available interrogation footage (and sometimes courtroom/aftermath) and presents it to the viewer, trimmed down and with explanations of what both the investigative and defendant side are doing. A great example of this is the video embedded above, is the case of Chris Watts who was covered in the Netflix documentary 'American Murder: The Family Next Door'. In the 3 videos JCS uploaded, we get a far better and deeper look into the case without the attempt to try and pull a 'reveal' on the audience, or frame the narrative around Facebook posts. JCS' videos cover other well known (in some cases, alleged) killers such as Nick Cruz, Jodi Arias, Casey Anthony etc. They're always fascinating to watch, in-depth, and don't cover the same ground too often.

TechMoan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_Yz0TT439Q

Mat is just a really nice guy, and it's evident in his videos. And through years of making his channel and building up the audience, he now has pretty good production values and the budget to explore technology oddities from the past and tell you about them. He drops a video every Saturday morning, and it can cover one of many different subjects related to technology. An obscure format that never made the mainstream? Some current kitchen gear that's probably tat? Regardless of what, it's usually pretty interesting stuff and a very pleasant way to start the weekend.

Some More News

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj-wc9qugGY

Cody is a News Dude by trade, and if you watch Last Week Tonight but feels it lacks something and doesn't swing left enough... this might fill the gap. It's definitely preaching to the choir material, but it's funny and sometimes you just want to watch 30-60 minutes on a subject you know stuff about but probably not to the extent you want to. Cited sources and well researched, it often takes bleak and frustrating topics and makes them as palatable as possible.

Truthiness!
Ask a Mortician - She covers anything and everything related to the death industry, also has some videos covering disasters in history (see also: Fascinating Horror for more of those)

Defunctland - Theme parks and rides of yesteryear. I recommend starting out with Action Park and Superstar Limo. Has a spinoff channel about old children's TV shows which is also pretty good.

Tier Zoo - An evolutionary biologist ranks animals in video game terms, both modern and extinct species.
