Problem description: A file called "Unconfirmed xxxyyy.crdownload" created by Chrome as a temporary file in the Downloads folder was not cleaned up by Finder and remains a phantom file in the display until reboot.

Attempted fixes: Restart Finder process used to be the goto, but no longer works.

Recent changes: n/a. This has always been an issue with Chrome on MacOS.

Operating system: macOS Big Sur 11.5.1

I have Googled and read the FAQ: Yes, I am surprised most entries that used to exist on this topic have disappeared. Alas what remains is rather clueless retorts on Apple forums from people who refuse to use Chrome or believe their beloved OS has a fault.

outlive your enemies
If it were in my shop I'd backup the "default" directory from the chrome data folder, nuke everything chrome, restart, force delete the file, reinstall chrome, launch and quit, copy backup "default" folder and overwrite the newest "default" folder.
