Imo if your game has an AOE system in a more freeform non-grid based or hex-based system, the AOE should be defined by a solid square instead of a circle, I'm pretty loving sick of playing the annoying "edging the cursor around until you're sure everyone is inside the radius" game of tedium, doubly so if it's a 3D game with multiple levels of terrain and the thing like jerks up and down like a piece of poo poo so you sit there for two minutes trying to get the AOE to suck all the shits' dick you're trying to get it to suck.
Play Divinity II and it's just like, 30% of the game fidgeting with that poo poo. It's incredibly boring and is basically just a glorified way of trying to use a level to make a portrait fit straight on the wall
