These just litter up the forums and with over 200,000 registered users, we need to eliminate these as much as possible. Please do not register gimmick accounts and make posts as a gimmick, unless they’re really, really funny (they probably aren’t). Please do not post crap asking us to vote for you on some website, give you referrals for free iPods / flatscreens / spare tires, or any other semi-spam things. If you have a business or another enterprise to promote, buy an ad. Don’t gently caress With the Forums: Or any user on the forums. If you post a malicious link (any URL with spyware or code designed to annoy people) you will be banned. Do not make plans to annoy or destroy other forums. Do not attempt to start a witch hunt against another poster, even if you know they’re totally a witch. Respect the Mods and Community: Mods:The moderators are here to keep the forums safe, sane, and secure. If they ask you to do something or stop doing something, please comply. Please do not harass or intentionally annoy the mods; all are volunteers who dedicate their free time to maintaining this space. If you don’t like the mods or the moderation, feel free to not post here. Other Goons: You don’t have to love your fellow posters, but you do need to treat them with a minimum of respect. Death threats or encouraging suicide are not acceptable under any circumstances. Offsite drama is neither the responsibility of the moderators nor something they have influence over. If there is an issue in a goon Discord, talk to the server admin first. Mods have no power over Awful Yearbook. Do not bring offsite drama into GBS unless you want to get teased before a mod deals with you. These forums are not a safe space for racists and garbage people. Do not use slurs of any kind. That includes things like the infamous “my n**** have u tried lsd” post. The word “oval office” is banned outside of the UK and Australia threads because otherwise they might have trouble communicating. Do not use words such as "autistic" or "bipolar" as pejoratives; that counts as using slurs. Do not intentionally misgender or deadname other posters. Do not suggest other users kill or otherwise injure themselves, or each other. Can you just be as well-behaved as a kindergartener? If so, you’ll probably be fine. "Gypsy" is a loving slur; stop using it. Charity and Donation Threads: Ask a mod first. Then post. Not the other way around. All rules about doxxing and harassment that apply in the general forums also apply here. Images and Files: If an image is not work-safe, add an  and a link. This includes literally anything you personally would not want your boss, grandma, or other person you respect to see you looking at. Yes, the Goatman is still banned.If an image is potentially disturbing, triggering, or might make someone puke, do the same as above with the  tag, and think about whether you really want to post it at all. This can include things like the legendary “neck crust” photo, explicit medical content, and Fronald Frump. Rapidly blinking images can trigger seizures and we don't want that, so please avoid posting any. No warez. No warez, no cracks, no CD codes, no illegal programs that are used to either crack software or perform any malicious activity. Don't post links, ask for links to download, or otherwise discuss illegal copies of copyrighted works, including movies, books, software, etc. You may find threads to discuss game emulation; do not post links to ROMs or ISOs or similar in those threads. Hello posting pals, As we all know, Russia invaded Ukraine in the last couple of days. As such, we, the moderators of GBS, want to lay down some ground rules for discussing this situation, in order to make sure that GBS remains itself and to ensure it doesn't turn into The Tankie Terror Tribunal. OFFICIAL THREAD: The official GBS thread can be found here: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3993948 This is not D&D: Normal GBS rules still apply. Some people may shitpost, some people may post interesting information, some may just be wondering what the hell is going on. These are all valid ways of posting. We're not going to be enforcing D&D style rules here. You can go over to that forum if you'd like that. Be respectful to your fellow poster: This is a fraught time for a lot of people. Some people may have relatives in Ukraine, some may actually be in an active war zone. As such, emotions are running high. Please be mindful of other people's situations, because you may not know what they're feeling to relative to this war. No slapfighting: We want to point out this one rule specifically. Because emotions are running high, and because this is the internet, minor disagreements may turn into major blowouts. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean that they're a tankie/being paid by Putin/has a membership at Mar-a-Lago. We'd ask that you take personal stock and see if you're getting way too invested in an online argument. If so, please step back for a bit. The thread will still be there when you cool down. Conversely, if someone does step back, cools down and comes back to the thread, do not renew the argument. You will get a probation for that. NWS images: This is a tough one, because this is probably the first major conflict that's taking place in the internet/TikTok/Instagram era. As such, there may be disturbing images that proliferate online. If you're going to post something like that, please consider the following: 1) Is this newsworthy? 2) Why am I posting this? 3) Does this advance the conversation in any way? 4) Has this been posted in the last few pages? Also, make sure you mark it and give a description of what's going on so people are aware (i.e. " shows a house being destroyed, possible blood).UPDATE 3/6: If you don't want the link to auto-embed, uncheck the "automatically parse URL" button below the text field. Make use of the report button: We mods can't police every thread. With what's going on in the world, along with our personal and professional lives, we can't sit in threads and  every minute of every day to make sure it's on track. We count on the community to help us out in this. We do take every report into consideration, and we would encourage you to use it if you think rules are being violated.
