With that being said, where are all these vouchers everyone is talking about and how do I redeem them?

I bought the Switch literally on launch day, have enough games for 10x The Brady Bunch, what am I missing, or where am I not looking? :dogbutton:

Nintendo Online members can buy a pair of vouchers at $100 to be redeemed on any eligible title. You can check the list but this includes pretty much every first party Nintendo game. So if you’re like me and you want to get both Paper Mario and Luigi’s Mansion, you can redeem the vouchers for each, cutting the total cost of both.

The fine print on this is that your subscription must be active at the time of redemption. Which is to say, if you preorder something with a voucher, your membership must still be active at the time they actually “charge” you for the game.

It is kind of weird that seven years in and there's no reduced pricing equivalent to the Greatest Hits/Selects line. Maybe they'll finally do it when the Switch II hits.

Editors note: a Nintendo online sub is $20 so unless you're able to get Nintendo gift cards at a discount and/or join a family plan the actual savings is $0

Their accounting department is betting that people will buy their games at full price because their platform is unique and their first party titles are better than most third party games (and they’re probably right)

Costco gift cards cost $90 for $100 of Nintendobucks, and occasionally got on sale for $80. I've bought many a first-party title on release for what works out to be $40 each.

You're not limited on the amount of times you can buy a set of vouchers, so you will start saving money on that second set of vouchers, even at full-price.

The rumors going around that "Mario Kart X" for the next console will be the costliest Nintendo game ever produced are probably true, because Mario Kart is Big Fuckin' Money for Nintendo these days

The problem for them, if it's true, is Mario Kart 8 has a shitload of courses and characters to choose from now, and Mario Kart X has to match that as a starting point at the bare-minimum.

I'm confident people will buy the slop if its base courses/characters is equal to or less than base MK8 and I wouldn't blame them because new courses that aren't the Mario Kart Tour DLC are fun to experience.

Oh, weird, ok then. I definitely defer to your knowledge on the subject. :shobon: I just could have sworn that there were fewer frames of animation for far off enemies than there were when they were up close.

There is a thing in Quake2 where we render everything as their MD2 models instead of the MD5 versions past a certain distance. The Switch distance is halved. This won't change the animations explicitly, but it does mean it's vertex animated rather than skeletal. I don't immediately remember if we did the same thing in Q1.

I haven't played Quake 2 in months, but have recently been going through Quake and its expansions for the achievements. This is all on Steam deck, btw.

Well consider this more like if you buy two Nintendo games a year, you've paid for NSO. Myself, I don't think I've ever bought less than six, so decent savings there. I've bought 5 Nintendo games so far this year and only didn't use a voucher on one of them.

Plus NSO does have a few perks, namely NES/SNES/GBC games and online play, plus probably a few other minor things I'm forgetting. If you want to get two digital full-price games anyway, might as well grab a year of NSO.

Just don’t aim for beating the Mario game. Get all the extras.

E: also, who can see a 4K version of Wonder coming to the next Nintendo system?
