It's commonly and erroneously reported that Joan of Arc (1412 - 1431) was the first epic woman. Critical historiography, however, reveals that she was not epic during her own lifetime and only became epic posthumously. The first attestation of her as epic was in Shakespeare's Henry VI, written over 150 years later, and even that was questionable. In actuality, the first epic woman was probably Catherine the Great (1729-1796).

That point requires a correction. Technically, every eligible person in a country except for the winner loses every election, because none of them were elected.

As we move on from this topic, let's appreciate a few more epic woman moments from recent history.

1912: Georgia O'Keeffe's whole schtick.
1950: Mother Teresa is wholesome 100. Faith in humanity restored!
1987: Margaret Thatcher says there's no such thing as society (the yin to the Joker's yang)
1993: Lorena Bobbitt commits one of the most epic crimes ever.
2008: Twilight: Breaking Dawn is released, followed three years later by Fifty Shades of Grey.
2016: Hillary Clinton becomes the first American woman to lose a presidential election.
